Default What's up with the Shift Lock Override Button?

New owner, here. I have only had my 92 SC300 since Friday, June 15, 2019. A couple of times after starting the car I noticed the shifter gets locked. It was then that I noticed the Shift Lock Override button. After depressing that I can then move the shifter. What the heck is going on?

Is your brake pedal switch working? That's what normally unlocks the shifter.
