Default SC running lights

I'm buying a 2000 SC 300. I looked at it yesterday and it was running with only the high beams on. I asked the owner and he said it must be the running lights. Does this year have running lights ? The high beams on at reduced output or something ? I had a '98 SC 300 and don't recall running lights on it.

thanks

You mean DRL's? The 1st gen SC's were designed for it but it was only implemented in Canadian market models where it is required on all cars there post 1990 or some year close to that.

If you look in the owner's manual it should mention this and if you were to look in the SC300/400 electrical wiring TSRM you will be able to find a section detailing the Canadian market DRL system and how they are wired. The USA models can technically accept all the right hardware and additional wiring to do it right from their factory fuse boxes under the hood just the way the original wiring diagrams show. I'm not sure if there are any unique parts for this which were never sold in the USA but it all should be doable. OG Status does a similar (and probably more modern) DRL setup for SC's.

Thanks for the response. So my 2000 SC that was originally sold in Minnesota was more than likely a Canadian car shipped to Minnesota ? My '98 SC was a southern ca, that explains why it didn't have DRL's as it most likely did not come from Canada.
I'm thinking of disconnecting the DRL's to save the high beams from burning out over time. My '98 SC had a cracked high beam and the fella I sold it to said it cost $900.00 to change that high beam because they had to take the whole front of the car apart to get to it.

Thanks for your help.

I would think the emissions sticker under the hood would state what market the vehicle was sold to?
