Lextreme, I don't think Keith was saying anything about your kit. I think you should be able to make some money cause of all the R & D and time and parts. Lotta work.

Being a fellow CL member you know as well as I do that Lexus owners are charged twice as much for the same parts and service. Everywhere from the aftermarket to the dealerships. It's just people tryin to hustle a few extra bucks cause of the shiny L on our bumpers. You know our pain so I don't think you'll take this path.

Yeah,

I know. I was addressing the issue to the general public. Nothing personal just facts.

Lexus owners can be charged twice, but only the Lexus fools will pay.

I have PRROOOOOF of it....( the ridiculous mindset that a lexus driver would be dumb enough to pay for name, not quality ).

I went to Goodyear on Eldridge at FM529, because they had a coupon in our neighborhood magazine for an alignment costing $54.00 for four wheels,... I get there,... ask them if they could do it,... he says yeah,.. let him check tha computer,..and lo' and behold,.. NOT for Lexus,... $279 and if i do it today,... $189,... so I'm like "what tha hell makes a lexus alignment cost that much",.. his answer: labor,... so I roll to another Goodyear on FM529 at Barker Cypress 3 miles away,... get a damn alignment for $59.00

Same labor,...1/4 the price....

First off, I apologize if anyone took offence to my post as I was definatelly not pointing fingers at ANYONE......I'm just not like that anyway.

But I did run into the exact same problem w/ an alignment.....TC install.....pricing ignition upgrades...and some other instances where I came this close to being on a roof top with a rifle.

Folks (talking aimlessly into the air). This same ***** cost "X" dollars for a ford/ honda, what not.....you tell them you have a Lexus, and all of a sudden these hidden costs come up and all of a sudden some special part makes the price higher. I have a friend that sells performance parts, and he makes so much money because he doesn't jack the price up for his Prowler, Vette, and Viper products- where his competition does. He will advertise the brand of his products and say whay other vendors are authorized dealers of the same product....who just happen to charge much more for the same items.

Even when I call around for prices now, I say its a Toyota Soarer.......You'd be amazed how the quote changes when I roll up in a Lexus....but luckilly I had the estimate in writing! Word to the wise!

Heck, take your car to the Lexus dealer, get a quote on something. Walk next door to the adjoining Toyota dealership service Center. Get another quote- The quote is different! I'm not lying- try it!

What also funny is that most small shop think most lexus owners are suckers. Let me tell all of you, learn something about your car. Read up to it. Dont let them BS you about your car. You should know more about your car than your mechanic. Your mechanic know a lots about cars in general, but not specific as your model. Ask questions, shop around. You are not being cheap, but being smart. Know general prices for parts and rebuild parts. Sometime, shop will make lots of money on rebuild and after market parts. Most of lexus owners just dont know. My final word is Learn and study about your car.

What is wrong with the RMM kit?

Just wondering. I know you guys are putting a lot of time into individual projects, but playing devil's advocate here.....what's wrong with getting the kit from RMM which includes injectors, intercooler, and all connectors?

I know you guys are not allowed to quote prices, but any clues? If it's $25k like the SRT TT kit, you won't have many takers.

Like I said, I am just playing devil's advocate since I'm one of the ones that's really serious about this subject.

Opinionate on.....

Last time I checked they didn't have a kit for the SC400. It's for the GS400. It might fit but I'm not taking a chance with that kind of money. I'm just waiting for an SC400 specific kit. I'll be ready in 3 months. Just waiting for the prototypes and dynos to be done and posted.

You know what guys, I appologize for that total brain fart.

In my haste to gobble up as much input on this, since I am really trying to decide on this, I failed to notice this topic was in the SC section of the forum. Not GS like I have, but SC as in DUHHHHH!!!

My bad.

Playing Devil's-Advocate on the topic of shop prices:

In defense of some of these smaller shops.

When someone tries to bypass the dealer to get a better deal ,and takes their car to some general mechanic:

Heres tha deal, A lexus is no different than any other car for the most part. When a smaller shop says "Oh, Its a LEXUS" and tells you to go to the dealer...he's not jockin your fine Japanese automobile...He's saying: "I dont want to deal with the headache that tends to come with it, take it elsewhere"...or they simply base their cost on dealership prices.

Do you really think its a big deal to change the spark plugs in these cars? uhhhh.....NO.

BUT, If he makes the mistake of dropping a screwdriver on the hood of your car and does the same to a Honda, 9 out of 10 Lexus owners would run to the dealer to get it fixed and pass him the bill.
The honda owner would let the same shop try to correct the problem first.

Liability: If this same screwdriver drops and rips a hole in a Lexus leather seat its gonna cost twice as much as a Honda seat. ....And then that 'Big Baller Lexus Elitist attitude' will come out again.

For that reason they have to protect themselves. It's not always about YOU. Dont think that its JUST because they see a Lexus they wanna charge out the nose. several factors may play a part in this. Parts are more expensive for them and liabilty issues are huge when working outside of their customer base.

They jack because they can AND because they have to.

So your best bet is to take it to a shop that specializes in that particular car... price shop within a group of Lexus specialist that have set pricing and then decide.

Uh...isn't that why shops carry insurance? I see where your coming from Em, but a claim is a claim, and the shop shouldn't be having mechanics that drop screwdrivers on ANY car!.......and yes, I know that was just an example.

Besides, having the screwdriver bounce off the hood and hit the seat is just really BAD LUCK!
and should hav nothing to do with the customer.

Sorry, couldn't resist!
