Default Battery or Alternator?

Forgive me for the dumb question as i am mechanically challenged.. i woke up this morning to my car not starting.. when i pressed the unlock button on my car key it beeped like normal but when i put the key in the ignition and turned it all of the lights went off and it went dead silent.. No cranks no lights nothing.. i pull the key out, shut the door and lock, unlock and try again... no start, again no crank no sound nothing... now when i try to click any button on my key i dont get any beeps or anything ,like i used what little life of what was left in my battery.. im hoping i can just replace the battery and that will solve my issue, but im fearful of it being something else like the alternator or a ground wire... any thoughts?

Check the connections to the battery and make sure they are tight and there is no corrosion. If you can get it to an autozone or advanced auto, most of them will check your battery for free. If you get the battery charged and can drive it there, they will be able to test your alternator too.
