Default Airbag light after installing aftermarket steering wheel

I’ve searched and can’t find a definitive answer but I recently but an airbag less aftermarket steering wheel into my car and since I couldn’t get any 2 ohm resistors locally I drove it for a couple weeks with the airbag light on until I got some. So today I installed the resistor and that didn’t turn the light off so I tried resetting it through the diagnostic port, still solid with the car on. If anyone has any ideas would be much appreciated.

I don't think it should matter that you drove it that way for a couple weeks. The airbag light reset dance is typically attributed to turning on the ignition with the gauge cluster disconnected, as I recall. Your 2 ohm resistor is 1/4 watt, I assume? I would try removing it and reinserting it, making sure to double the legs over on themselves to better replicate the thickness of a connector pin, and see if it just wasn't seated properly the first time.

Thanks! I tried folding the legs over to try and make better contact but still no luck. Could the problem be that I’m trying to crimp connect a resistor into the existing air bag wires since you need to cut them off the clock spring when putting in the slim hub?

That sounds plausible, being a more invasive change than just unplugging the airbag, although the two wires shouldn't care how they're jumpered with the resistor. You might try soldering the resistor into the two wires for a more reliable connection.

when you are doing the reset dance to reset it the light should blink out as you are doing it, if not then it probably doesn't think the resistance is right.

When I do the reset the airbag light does one long blink followed by three short fast blinks then goes off, is that the right sequence?

If I remember right you have to keep touching the ground on and off while it is blinking and then on the last one hold it or something like that. there is no easy reset.
it took me like 15 tries the first time I ever did the reset, with a proper airbag connected.
You have to do the "dance" basically, just touching it once or twice won't do it. I haven't looked at the instructions in years but I remember the dance, some people make an on off switch to make it easier but if you get the timing right you can just keep grounding the wire on and off and eventually itll go out if the resistance is right.
details are in here I think
