Went to drive my SC400 this weekend and it struggled to start, but fired up. I hadn't driven it, so assumed it was the battery and driving for a while would take care of it. I drove for about 45 min and then ran into a store. When I came out the car would crank and crank and crank, but wouldn't fire/start. I called AAA and was going to have the car towed to a mechanic when the car finally fired up. It drove home with no issues, but of course once I got home, it would just crank and crank again. Could this be the starter or a larger issue? I've read this could mean trouble with the ECU. Obviously, I will be taking the car in, but curious if anyone has any insight on this. I should add there are no warning lights on the dash once it's started.

If it actually cranks over at normal speed, it won't be the starter or battery.

If the issue only happens when the engine is warm, I would have suggested checking fuel pressure regulator. But it seems to occur when you first try to start it, so it should normally rule that out.

This happened to me one time over a year ago. I thought it might be the cold start injector, but on a whim I sprayed some starter fluid into the plenum, started right up. Was it a great idea? Probably nope. But it hasn't happened again.
