Default Exhaust - Stock (before) and Borla (after)

This is one of the recent modifications I made to my 95 SC400. I noticed an appreciable performance improvement (also installed the Injen intake) and the sound, while a little deeper, is not overpowering. What do you think?

I have the Borlas also with BFI. My mpg went up, throatier sound, not too loud, better performance via seat-of-the-pants gauge. Good upgrade for a stocker.

Sounds much more refined. I like my exhaust slightly louder though. My favorite exhaust is the Tanabe Hyper Medallion muffler. I've heard it on redgs4's 1UZ-FE (with deleted resonators) and damn! All I can say is the NorCal congregation drove to Pizza Depot after a LeMans go-kart minimeet, and of 10 cars with 10 different exhausts, when we parked our cars, EVERYONE was like "Damn Chris! What kind of mufflers are those!! They sound bad ***!!" It seriously gives the Lexus V8 a deep throaty V8 roar that that I've never heard before. I think Howie installed them on his SC300 too. I wonder how that worked out?

Do you mind if I add that video clip to the FAQ? I would be hosting the file myself. Let me know.

What a resonator? Is it in the sc300? If so, how could I take it off?

DX3, sorry but I don't know anything about resonators. The Borla was installed as is and was just bolted on. The only adjustment that was made was to even out the tips so they were aligned.

Does anyone know if the Borla exhausts for SC300s are interchangeable with the ones for SC400s?

Or are they two totally different designs?

Thanks.

My guess is that the Borlas would work on the 300SC as well. Check the interenet to see if the part is the same.

Thanks.

Do you have more pictures or sound cilps of your car w/ Borla exhaust? I saw your pictures and heard your clip and was very impressed.

hey OLT or anyone else, how do you think the Hyper Medallions would sound on an SC3? maybe with the middle resonator removed?

Thanks

Ask Howiedoit. He has the Tanabe Hyper Medallions on his SC300. The "third resonator" you speak of is actually a catalytic convertor. I don't know about FL laws, but you should probably check Area Resources to see if it's legal to touch it first. If you cut into it, as I have, you can see the honeycomb catalyst material inside. So in short, there is no third resonator.

There are no emissions testing here in FL. As a matter of fact, there is no inspection required to drive your car on the road. Some of the POS cars on the road amaze me and look outright dangerous. You might not get a ticket for the cat. converter removed but you could get one for the exhaust being too loud. Check your local laws.
