Could it be a blown head gasket?? I experienced similar things with a P.O.S. 89 Aerostar, Eddie Bauer edition.. Which would often die or cut out in the most inconvenient areas. So, I would sit it out for awhile, cool down and it would turn back on like nothing was going on and would drive fine... I started noticing these symptoms when I drove from LA to San Diego, which it needed a break about half way through because it would just die on me, like giving it gas and there wasn't anything there anymore. I got pretty good at figuring it out when it would die, so I would stop and get gas and it was good to go. This happened for about a month that I literally daily drove it to S.D. while waiting on my ship to get back. It ultimately died and it didn't come back, got it towed to LA, and traded it in for a 2000 Celica GTS...

I have driving it about 10,000 miles.. haven’t had to add coolant since I flushed (7,000 miles ago) it and it looked good then. No oil in coolant no coolant in oil.. It has never gone even 1/2 on the gauges also.
mine never dies out.. lol

yeah, lol, I wouldn't know, It was technically my first car and this thing leaked from everywhere... Did 5 daily round trips from San Diego to LA for like 6 months before it gave in... Don't remember the miles, probably a few thousand though..... May sound electrical as something is getting too hot and cutting your fuel, like hitting the speed limiter... I am a noob here, so my experience in this platform is limited.. lol...

Has anyone else seen that configuration? I've never seen them both on the driver's side.

I believe the OP is referring to the "pass" side ignition coil being above right by the IACV. I guess it could "technically" be on the drivers side...

OP, did you replace the timing belt yourself? Was the car running as such prior to replacement? You may want to verify that the cams are aligned and aren't off by a few teeth.

Also did you verify the CEL bulb isn't burnt out? Wouldn't be the first instance...

Everything I have done is trying to fix my problem and have a safe car..
Thanks...

I would actually stop replacing parts, and start tracing wires.. if you have help ask them to rev the engine to where you feel the issues are and use a multimeter and check wiring to see which one is dying on you... Throttle body, Throttle position sensor, IAC, and diagnostics port on the engine bay... among others

That's as good a guess as any, but nothing about that location screams driver's side, and definitely not "above" the other unless you're looking purely at elevation, not vertical alignment... It's also the same layout as all the '92-97 SC400s I've seen, so nothing '92-specific as implied.

Mine would cut out anytime too. then it would start up and shut right down. It was the plug from the wiring harness that goes to the coil
