Default LOL @ SC400 exhausts...

i decided to just remove my mufflers (92sc400 with K&N filter) at 8am today as i'm still awake from last night and got bored. wasn't too sure of what to expect, but I was quite surprised. it's a little throatier at low RPMs, but up top i notice almost no difference at all! so with this in mind, i'm wondering if it's possible that any horsepower at all is gained by buying an aftermarket rear section like the borla or rmm, doesnt seem like they could make a diff. at all. my car's still not loud enough, even with NO muflers, so I guess it's time to remove something else.

Our car is pretty damn loud with no mufflers on. Loud enough to attract attention anywhere. Mufflers alone won't make much of a power difference. Most of the gain is probably in the perception of speed from the more aggressive sound you hear. Peter Scott has a pretty good dyno chart to illustrate the power gain from mufflers.

the stock mufflers are a straight-thru design, so there probably wouldn't be much if any gain in power just from replacing the mufflers. added power in the backend of your exhaust is more likely to come from removing the resonators and/or upgrading your piping to something slightly larger, like lex400 has done. BTW, ive never heard of Peter Scott's dyno chart before, would you mind posting a link?

Now which ones the resonator? so by removing the rear mufflers no gain, but a slight reduction in weight?

There is so much restriction in places other that the mufflers. 3 cats and 2 resonators and 2 mufflers. I took out my resonators, did 2.25" piping and replaced the stock mufflers. Picked up some HP and it sounds really aggresive now. Anyone try some high flow cats yet?

my exhaust now looks like this:
headers (stock) direct to two cats on either side
striaght piping- center cat deleted, resonators deleted
new piping has less bends to ease flow
magnaflow mufflers...
