Advertising???
You've got to be kidding...
The post above asked where he (Dave H) got the manifold. How is that advertising?
Can I not tell anyone where I got my Toyomoto turbo kit for and for how much? Would that not be advertising too? Dave came on this site not for solicitation, but to share experiences and information with us. He's posted lots of valuable information. I'm not sure that an impediment to the flow of this type of information is in the best interest of Club Lexus. If Dave H makes the manifolds himself, why can
he can't say so, just because he is the seller? It was in direct response to a query, not a solicitation for business. I don't see One Last Try getting shut down for peddling his needles and lights on the board. IMHO there is no real solicitation going on here, but perhaps he shouldn't have stated that the price on them is $600 each, though.

Just my .02.

Ques for the admin: is selling of used parts from your car ok? IE: If I want to sell the transmission from my car. I believe there use to be a *for sale* section, but I don't see it any longer. Thx

DaveH

*EDIT* errr nevermind, I found the *for sale* section.

Sorry Dave. I didn't think I would get you into trouble.

I think some of a moderators can't read the text correctly. I strongly support that all the moderators take the LSAT test. This is how the law schools try to weed out such people.

Look guys, is this necessary? DaveH agreed with my PM to him.

Basically, he says he offers a service @ a price. That is against CL rules. If you have a problem with that, I can clarify if necessary. I doublechecked with our Admins before pulling the trigger. If there any questions, let me know.

Dave,

Selling personal stuff off your car is absolutely no problem at all, looks like you've already got a buyer. What's not OK would be selling new products in bulk, drumming up interest for new products, talking about prices and group buys in the forums, etc. Scott is correct in his statement about going a bit to far by going into prices, etc. BTW, Onelasttry does not make a profit off his refurbishing of the needles, I don't think you can say the same for vendors, including this specific situation.

Legendary is correct in his interpretation of the rules here guys, despite Chris' rude and innapropriate LSAT comments . Moderators are all volunteers and deserve a little appreciation, not public ridicule. If you have a problem with anything a moderator says or does, you should PM Ethan (Static911) or me.

We very much appreciate DaveH's participation on CL, his contribution to our forums and sharing his knowledge with our members (thank you).

I agree with the tone of the rule about no vendors advertising in these forums. It keeps every yahoo from poluting the board. But I also think that people with very specific SC300 parts should be able to reply to a user comment without fear of being censored. It was a pointed question, and a specific reply was given. The main difference here is "solicited" or "unsolicited". IMHO, pointed questions soliciting a reply from a reputable member who also happens to be a small, specific 2JZ oriented specialist, should be allowed. Perhaps it would invite more participation on behalf of the 2JZ wizards, some of which actually make a living in part from their knowledge. If comments like these were allowed, perhaps guys like Clint Pohler, Larry Prebis, Dave Henry, Lance Ho Lung, etc would participate more for the good of the board. Comments from these guys are few and far between, and the more we can learn from them, the better for the group.

Gee thanks buddy, as you can see i was RIGHT in the middle of this conversation and deserved to be attacked. You could at least know what your speaking about before you do. I have never charged anyone a dime.

How much does Lexus charge for a Climate bulb? $8 each? i get them to people for half that since i buy for CL members through a distributor and pass them along AND put them in for no charge Sorry for trying to help, i can stop if you'd like.

$4 is what the distributor get's, i don't see a dime.

I do this for practice scott, i am in school for engineering. by the time i finish i will have two years on the job experience. Some here are more grateful than others.

Scott,

I hear you and agree 100%+. All I'm asking is for folks to understand there sometimes is a line we have to draw when those experts are answering questions or when they're promoting a product, even if the question is 'solicited'. It's pretty easy to have another member (who may be a close associate or even a silent business partner) ask questions to a vendor or post about new products and then have the other respond with more information to drum up business. This certainly isn't the case here, but I've certainly seen several instances of that on CL. We've got to make a judgement call on when the line gets crossed from sharing knowledge and expertise to advertising or promotion.

I personally would make a purchase from someone who has demontrated significant expertise in our forums, and hope those members who make a living from their technical knowledge of our cars continue to share it.

Is $4 not more than a dime?

????

Is this not selling a product? I'm not trying to attack anyone, just using this case as a comparison. And I don't mean any harm at all, just trying to make a point.

Okay guys.. come on now. Most of the people on this thread are what I would call "veterans" of CL. We need to be setting the example here, regardless of whether or not we agree with the rules. Something this little really doesn't need to go any further than what it has already.
