I just finished doing mine yesterday as well. I didn't do the "front scoop", top cover, and under headlight cover. Didn't do that scoop simply b/c i don't want my car to look like that Didn't do the top cover b/c i was too lazy to measure, draw, and cut. I'm still getting air from the big hole(and it's really big!!) under the head light. I also made a heat shield that is sandwiched between the PSF resevoir and the air box(from rad to end of air box).

BTW, i think my mpg has already increased. Today, the gas needled moved less than usual even though I actually drove faster and did a few more WOT than I usually do

 

During my "testing" phase I actually got the worst mileage to date. 19 mpg

But I was on it constantly... I couldn't get enough of that sound Oh well that's why I buy PREMIUM!

Once the new wears off - I believe my mileage will improve.

The thought of resetting the ECU hit me yesterday on one of my test runs. I was placing foam in various places to seal off the remaining air leaks. Oddly, when I tightly sealed the area between the rightmost bellmouth and the vertical piece of lexan, I seemed to develop a delay when I punched it. I surmised that I might actually be causing an air eddy in front of that bellmouth and also trapping heat. Subjectively, the car ran best with one piece of foam on the left side and cool air flowing by on the right side...

I'll try resetting the ECU between test runs where I change anything in the future...

 

Did the BFI.
Used leather grained ABS Plastic for the box.
After doing it I would highly recommend using black coreplast instead.
Used the same leather grained ABS for top cover and side sheild.
Used Black foam ( The type they make camping pads from ) to seal the passenger side triangular hole.
The mod works great, definitely more power now.
Gas mileage has also improved considerable.
I highly recommend this mod.
I didn't do it for the added power , I did it for the better gas mileage.
The added power is just a bonus.
I believe it probably added at least 10-15 horsepower.
Will have to do some calculating to get the added gas mileage.
Will post results of gas mileage increase in the future.

Does anyone know if this BFI mod would pass the Smog Test in California by any chance?

 

I would think that because the BFI gains you more air to your engine and better fuel economy that it in theory should give you a cleaner exhaust emmissions.

Oh okay. Let's hope so. Does anyone have luck finding the Egg Cups? Or should I just contact that guy from Aussie?

 

The egg cups are not really necessary as long as you use a black plastic cover to cover and seal the area.
I purchased some Stainless Steel muffin tins to do mine and realized they are not really necessary.
The egg cups might look nice but they restrict the air flow.
I just used a dremel cutting tool and made a nice job of cutting the front of the air box off.
Once you put a black plastic cover on the area no one will ever see it.
I noticed the increase in horse power immediately.
This mod however does increase the engine noise a little as you can hear the air being sucked in.
I monitored my mileage before and after the BFI Mod and an increase of 3 to 5 miles per gallon is where the mod will take you.
Make sure you use Stainless bolts on the bumper opening as regular bolts will rust in short order.

Did you run into any confusions along the way?
Anything you think I could do to change any of the mod itself?
If you were to do it again, how would you change it?

Not sure where I got my directions from.
I printed out the template, made the box out of cardboard, fitted it then I used the card board template to cut my ABS Plastic Sheet.
If I was going to do it again I would not use ABS Plastic sheet, I would use Black Cloroplast (sp) sheet as it is much easier to form(this is the stuff they use for making signs,it kind of looks like plastic carboard.

The BFI Modification is probably the biggest bang for your buck.

My BFI Cost me about $5 Canadian.
The $5 was for the Stainless Steel Bolts and Washers.
The ABS Leather Grained Plastic Sheeting i used for the box itself and the cover I got from scraps at a Plastic mfg place.

Time to do the mod-----5 Hours.

Here is the link to the directions for the BFI.
I downloaded and printed out the templates and kindo f guessed at the angles.
The dimensions are in metric and if you measure and cut every thing as in the directions it will fit like a glove.
