Question Power Steering Whine and Where to get parts

Hi all!
I'm a little new to this forum but I've had my 1997 sc400 for about a couple months now and the whole time its had this pretty bad whine that i have determined to be coming from the power steering. I took it to the dealer and was told that the pump was fine but there was a leak in the high pressure line but the part is discontinued.

Is there anywhere that i can find either aftermarket or oem kits for the power steering line?

First step is try and find a shop that repairs hydraulic lines, many places that service big rigs do this. Failing that, Rockauto has some of the hoses

Your car has quite the labyrinth because of the hydraulic fan motor

Other possible sources

+1 for removing the factory PS high pressure lines and taking them to a hydraulic repair shop to get them restored. Assuming the same OEM assembly isn't available new from Lexus.

Second to that if it cannot be done, then go with aftermarket lines. But even if you do, *keep* your OEM high pressure PS line assembly for yourself or another owner to repair later on-- because those PS lines can always be rebuilt.

you can buy on rockauto a PS lines from Gates. i changed this last year on my SC. My whining comes from the alternator. i refurbished my ps pump, lines new, several times bleeded, it was little bit better, but whines like a supercharger. check your voltage from the alternator, i had cold around 13,5V and after 20min driving only 12V. With refurbished alternator vfrom Denso (rockauto) no whining more and 13,8-14,2V. You can find pictures and more infos to my ps problems in my project thread.

I periodically change the PS fluid w synthetic fluid and ensure its kept pretty clean..... do this to keep the system healthy, it may be too late, but worth doing...Over two hundred thousand miles...so far so good

Plus one for regular change outs I use Amsoil signature series transmission fluid in my power steering and an occasional cleanse with seafoam trans tune works like a charm

>You state the "Dealer" told you the line had a "leak"... but you did not tell us if the Reservoir level is dropping day-to-day, or if you have seen ATF under the SC. IF you can determine there actually is NO leak... then simply try sucking out old fluid from the Reservoir as much as possible, with a Shop-Vac and small hose, or even a turkey-baster... run the engine at ~2000RPM, and turn the wheels slowly back-and-forth all-the-way to the stops, 10 times.
>Then REPEAT. Idea is to get all-NEW fluid into the entire system. Turning "slowly" helps bleed air out of the system. Also note that old-aged Return Hoses can have 'invisible' cracks, and should be replaced in our old Lexi...
