I have been having a lively discussion with a gentleman on a local car forum regarding the subject of SC300 VS SC400.
It goes a little like this. A gentleman asked about specs for both cars because he is comtemplating buying one or the other. He wanted specs with the idea of later boosting which ever one he picked. He also wanted to consider the choice based on costs to boost with a goal of 500whp.
I had offered examples and links from here regarding my opinion. What is the common consensus here?

I know of multiple 300 running 500+rwhp but how many 400s? It`s not that I don`t like the 400, it is just that it is still in its infancy, and that means $$$. when turbo kits for the 2jz first came out, I bet they were alot more expensive than they are now. So basically which trail does he want to walk? the well traveled or less traveled one?
This statement is straight and to the point couldn`t have said it better.
SC3 will of course be easier and cheaper... 500 won't come too cheap though

Well, I have a boosted GS400, so I KNOW that boosting 400's is not easy in the sense that we have almost 0 market support. The point I was trying to make with that guy was that he kept stating (don't know where the facts came from) that 500HP SC400's were not only already available, but "common place" in places like australia. I explained that australia spec cars are not U.S. spec cars and that there was manufacturers in australia doing S/C for the 400, but here (right now) it would be easier to find parts to boost a 300 than a 400. I also stated that boosting any would be an expensive proposition especially if 500HP is the goal. He responded by telling me that he thought he could get 500whp from an SC400 for less than a 300. The only justification I could think of is the fact that 400's start out with more BHP than the 300's....
So I was not that far off the mark then????
I know GS's, SC's are a little different so I'm looking to the experts here to make sure I'm not just talking out of my butt. I just figured that with supra parts being so readily available from many manufacturers that boosting a 300 would be easier than boosting a 400. Right or wrong?

As already stated the SC300 would be an easier platform to work with. I would direct him to Lex400sc's site Intellexual so he can get a better idea of what the SC300 is capable of, there's a comprehensive write up. You could point out that a particular member on this board has been able to reach +1000hp on the 2JZ-GE NA-T conversion.

I posted over there and gave that link.
A ton of info on that one. Thanks.

For ease of installation and just to get 500 hp, i would say the 300.
but the 1uz is an excellent motor, i hate autos tho, making a bellhousing wouldnt be too hard, after that you just slap a couple turbos on and an intercooler, but the high compression will make it hard to reliably make boost, so youde have to pull the motor and probably put some thicker metal head gaskets, or get low compression pistons, i would do some headwork to it too, larger valves cams etc etc. After you do this though, you have a motor that can handle upwards of 800bhp, which is pretty damn good if you ask me.
Question here is, why dont more people swap 1jz's, you can make 700 hp on stock internals with just the addition of a single turbo
PS check this out http://www.f40.co.nz/f40/index.htm click on engine
a masterpeice if you ask me....

In terms of actual knowledge of what is being done and knowing everything without the R&D and guess work and re-tuning........... i'd say the 400.
Back in the real world, only peter scott and close friends seem to have the info it takes to get it right.
