Hello,

Any Check Engine Lights?

There is not much that can cause a Rich condition, and since the whole engine doesn't run right, it is not isolated to one or two cylinders, you likely have issues with O2 or MAF sensor, or the ECU. I am not sure if your car has OBD2 port, if it does, check Engine Live Data, look for MAF, O2 and Temperature sensor readouts, and for Fuel Trims, and post the readouts here.

P.S. Punching the cats out when the car clearly doesn't run right, that's gotta be one interesting diagnostics method..

Hope this helps and best of luck!
