That ain't that bad. Considering the 2jzgte is only $3500 jdm from Osaka Motor. So that's $11k + tranny conversion to either 5 or 6 speed, if applicable. Signal Auto, that in CA right? Does anyone know if those guy can make the thing smog legal, in CA? Thx

Smog legal in CA if you use a USDM motor of the same year or newer with all smog equipment.

Wow, I didn't realize they were that low. Is that the entire engine (longblock)? Or what?
EDIT - what's the difference between US and JDM? I searched, but couldn't find much useful info

I talked to osaka about their claimed 3500 2jzgte swap and this is what I got , an aristo auto engine mated to a 1jz 5 spd tranny. I found that price hard to believe being that I cant even come close to getting a 6spd swap near that price, and that is if you can even find one at all. It took me 9 months to source one in japan for a good price. Not starting anything but the motors I have seen come from osaka are not the cleanest by any means!!!! This has been my first hand experience.

So am I to understand that you asked about their 2jz-gte swap for $3500, and they said they didn't have one but have the 1jz? Or did you jus change your mind or something?

no, I did not buy anything from osaka nor will I. When I was in search for a 2jzgte, I asked them and they said the 3500 deal consisted of 1 aristo 2jzgte auto engine with a 1jzgte 5spd tranny. When I asked them about a 6spd they said they did not have one but it would be more expensive.

isn't that bad? ...okay say 3500$ for the engine. 2500 for tranny...3000 for the supra rear end (cuz they do the 6-speed) then probably like 2000+ in misc parts if not more....so all together they charge like 17g's...that might not be bad to you...but for me it is =/

Hmmmm, not so sure (and I really want to be wrong!!) A careful read of California ARB Bureau of Automotive Repair pamphlet "Engine Change Guidelines" adds this little gem: A federal certified engine cannot be used in a vehicle that was originally certified for California". I called CARB and spoke with a them to clarify. Said that if your SC is an origninal California market car, the engine you put in must be for a California car. The JDM 2jzgte was never certified for CA's market, therefore, you are screwed. Things like the entire ERG system are not there, JDM uses MAP vs MAF andthere are more.

So I am still left wondering how the heck a ARB referee would know where the freaking engine came form in the first place if you where to locate and install these plus the rest of the California required parts? Do serial numbers come into play here?

Agian, I want to be wrong, as this latest info has brought my intended swap to a screaching halt. I am also left wondering if those who know are reluctant to post answers in our public forum. Hearing a lot of you have to know people to get this done. Before I drop $8-10k, I am not sure I am going to rely on "get to know people" to save my @ss and my car from impound.

USDM =California ? Was the supra tt 2jzgte a 50 state car? I not trying to be difficult here, I really don't know if this is the case. My SC300 specifcally has a sticker under the hood in reference to meeting California emission requirements.

Was the Supra TT a 50state car? I believe so. I don't see why Toyota would only market it in certain areas.
