Like I said, alot of companies re badge items that they did not manufacture. If thats all it takes to set you off, you must have a hard time getting through the day my man!

i just felt like i was being jumped on for buying a rebadged product from rmm, and i thought i had put in alot of time doing homework. so when you said i could save money if i did my homework i took it as a put down. sure i would like to save money but my first post on this thread was intended to relate some of the fun i'm having with the 3.76 lsd. i guess i should not have mentioned where i got it, how much i paid or that it sounded to me like they build them. yes i overreacted to your comments and should not have posted the comments that i did. i'm sorry

3dog, not a problem...its all good brotha. Trust me, I have alot of RMM stuff on my car, and I most likely paid the same thing that you did on most of it. After being on here for awhile I now know that I could have bought some of this stuff elsewhere for a better price...but hind sight is 20/20...and that fact doesnt minimize the enjoyment that I get out of the stuff.

Enjoy the new parts...they make a huge difference. Now save up for the TQ..go straight to Precision Industires for that one, thats who RMM buys theres from.

Yeah, that's enough to make anyone a bit cranky!!
Do you think the lower gearing makes your car rev too high for high speed cruising on the freeway etc.?
3dog says he gets 2800 rpm at 70 mph! I checked on the freeway tonight and (assuming my speedo is accurate) I was only turning 2300 at 70 mph. So that's 500 rpm higher-does that sound about right? With my stock gearing 2800 rpm puts me at 85 mph. Really not that big a deal I guess-I'm not worried about top speed so much anyway...
So what's my best bet for a good deal on the LSD w/gears?

now i don't have first hand experience but i've heard the torque converter adds 500rpm. can any of you guys with one confirm this? and about the 2800rpm at 70mph i had heard before i ever got it that with the 3.76 i would be running higher rpm, so i was not surprised. i was surprised at the acceleration from 70 in 5th gear. merry christmas everyone. ivan

TC doesn't change the gearing of the car, only the rpm level the car goes to before full torque is applied to the rear axle (2800 vs. 1800). By allowing the engine to 'spool up' more in the high performance TC, more torque is available to put to the ground.

I have the TC/3.76 gearing/ugraded valve body.
From my experience, the gearing is the only thing that has caused my rpm to be higher at crusing speed. I agree with 3dogg, the rpm at 70mph is about 2700-2800. I am in the process of changing back to the 3.23 gears just because I wan't to get some of my gas mileage back. I have dropped to nearly 17.5 mpg since the install of the TC. Before, I was getting nearly 20 mpg with only the 3.76 gearing. NO changes in MPG with the install of the upgraded valve body.

hope this helps a little

aloha and have a great christmas
ricky

Default rpm

FUTUREGS400 i looked again today and it was about 2700rpm at 70 mph. & looked like 2350rpm at 60mph. so thats what 400rpm higher than stock diff. of course below that i imagine the rpm difference is even smaller. i've read on this forum you can take the 3.76 gears up all the way to something like 145mph before the governor kicks in the same as the stock diff. i've only had mine 3 weeks and it is really growing on me. mucho fun. i read somewhere that it increase's the torque by 15% and if thats true thats a lot of torque.

HI98GS
man gas mileage or fun, i'll take the fun anyday. my first half tank when it was wide open throttle everytime was an impressive 10 mpg. now that i'm a little more laid back i average about 15mpg best i've gotten is about 22 on a long drive but i was still doing 70mph a lot. if you were getting 20 mpg with the 3.76 and that seems good to me and then you dropped to 17.5 mpg when you added the torque converter it would seem to me that the torque converter was the cause of the drop in gas mileage, and as near as i can tell thats only an extra gallon for every 10 you put in. gas here is $1.59 a gallon. you'd have to save a lot of money on gas to make up for the loss you'll take on your 3.76 lsd unless maybe you got it dirt cheap and can sell for same the amount. i would keep it the way you've got it and go for the maximum fun factor. but if you're concerned about the mileage i think the torque converter (based on your figures) is the culprit.

bitkahuna
thanks for clearing that up for me i guess i was given some bad information

3dogg: I love the fun, but right now, I think I will have to save on it until the summer. Gas here is about 2.20 a gallon in Hawaii. Not as bad as in some other states, but bad enough. If gas was 1.59 there would not be a question of what I would do.

have fun, I sure am

I'm amazed anyone would take out the Torsen diff to save on gas. HI98GS you live in Hawaii, how far could you be driving!? Why not just sell the GS and get a Civic Hybrid or Toyota Prius? Then you'll save even more on gas!

Tonight on the way home I looked at my tach and at 80mph it's right at 3000rpms (with Torsen 3.76 diff and 2800rpm TC).

bitkahuna,
I think you don't understand me. I wanna keep the torsen diff!!! but want to switch the gearing to the 3.23. I did not want to get another LSD if i didn't need to get one. I already have both differentials, but just want to get the stock gearing with the LSD. Kinda like what everyone has done by getting the TRD LSD and switching their differential.

I am not thinking that the torsen is the cause of the gas mileage drop. I KNOW it is because of the gearing. As for getting a Civic or something, that is not in the equation. I don't think that you understood what I was trying to say or maybe I wasn't clear.

BTW just because I live on an island doesn't mean that I only drive 1 mile. Oahu is a lot bigger than most people believe.

anyways have a good christmas and drive safely

Sorry HI98GS, you're right, I never considered you'd be considering changing the ring gear IN the Supra diff! How hard is that to do? Still seems like a big pain to gain 1-2mpg.
