Please try the search feature on our forum - this has all been discussed MANY times before. Nobody here is gonna lie to you . Well, except for that one thing.
In short... SRT intake, IMO a great addition, but you can also get similar gains with SAFC + other intakes such as K&N + tuning. The SRT after all that is I think more cost effective. Only a couple of folks have dynod to come within the 30hp increase. The others are more moderate (half that).
Best bang for the buck - high stall (2800) torque converter. Stealth mod, great increase off the line.

The Precision Industries (PI) TC is the one I've had since 1999 with no problems. Get a tranny cooler with it for extra insurance that the additional heat gets dissapated (cheap insurance).
Put torque converter into the advanced search on the GS forum and you'll find lots of info! Same thing with transmission cooler.

Question, how does that compare in relation to getting the Rod Millen Valve Body. I know the VB is about $1000 and I'm sure the TQ Converter is probably less. But the complaint I've always had with mine is the muffled shifts sometimes and I've heard the aftermarket VB is much better.

I don't have the valve body upgrade done (yet, lol) but I can't imagine it would come anywhere close to the off the line punch the TC has. I've never really felt I was losing a lot of momentum between shifts on mine. Most people with the VB upgrade have also done FI.
TC makes a MAJOR difference. I've lined up with another GS with exactly the same mods as me sans the TC and he couldn't believe how hard my car pulled on his of the line. On the highway we were dead even.

Be advised that several GS430 owners with a higher stall TC installed have problem having the Check Engine Light on. This is not a problem with GS400 though. I really wanted to get a TC also but was discouraged by the Check Engine Light problem reported by several GS430 owners.

The reason it lunges between shifts is not the valve body but rather the ECU pulling timing a LOT. Like 25 degrees. I've datalogged it. It is done to make it feel smoother but Toyota never disabled that features at WOT for some reason. It goes from 20-22 degrees to -5 degrees of timing. No way around that unfortunately. I wonder which code is being triggered by the TC?
