Default Gs400

Quick Question:

I've done a lil searching on the net and can never find my answer. The GS400 VVT-i engine, is it 300hp @ the wheels or @ the crank?

Thanks bitkahua:

Since 300hp is at the crank, what is the actual rwhp of the GS400? I've been ridin around thinkin it's 300 @ the wheels . Now i gotta do more engine mods to get me up to my desired hp.

John,

If you were happy with the power before when you thought it was RWHP, what changed? EVERY automotive mfgr quotes power in crank HP. Only when you get into modifying it do you really see RWHP. If you liked it before, just enjoy it as it is and don't worry about it.

IMO you will [u[never ever[/u] see anything close to 300 RWHP on a GS with any set of bolt on mods without adding nitrous or forced induction (supercharger or turbo).

Dave,

it's not that i'm unhappy at 240hp at the wheels. When i race, i'm still winning! no biggy to me. I was just hoping that 300 hp was at the wheels, cuz 300 @ the wheels is better than 240! lol . I haven't found a thing about the GS4 to complain about yet. I don't plan on starting now. I can do Mods to Upgrade appearance and style, also, performance and sound. Take all the away, The GS4 is still my dream car! No complaints here!

If you're not going FI, stick the Supra 3.76 LSD and PI TC in, and your car will move a LOT quicker.

Typically you are going to get 240-255rhwp w/ both the GS400 or 430. The 430, will give you the higher area range of rwhp based on what I have personally dynoed.

FI- Forced Induction- Turbo or Supercharger

Supra 3.76- numerically lower gearing and limited slip- better tractiion, better acceleration (slightly lower top speed)

Torque Converter- higher stall speed, quicker launches and shifts ( I think)

You DO you know that those 20s are going to make your car slower, don't you?! Your power-to-weight ratio will go down notably unless they're made from some super lightweight alloy.

LOL I'm the same way, I just love the way the large diameter wheel fills up the wheelwell with the proper lowering job.

I want to see if having a lightweight 20" wheel (like the CA-05) and a RMM 3.76 diff will help with the performance. The difference that I notice is in the responsiveness, not the overall speed. For instance, it seems as if I have to press down further to get a kickdown, vs the stock wheels.

I'm hoping the shorter rear ratio will at least get me back to stock or maybe a hair quicker.

I'm also hoping the money for a rear diff falls out of the sky!!! LOL
