Oh yeah. My 2000 GS400 does the same thing. What a joke that Lexus cannot or will not address this issue. My service rep was fully aware of this and said that Lexus doesn't consider it a problem.. It's nice to have a $50k car that idles like a Chevy Chevette at a stoplight.

Just adjust the throttle cable. Lexus puts too much slack in it.. taking out that slack helps alot..

That is correct, there is no throttle cable.

I could very well be mistaken, since I have a '99 GS400, but I think while it's an electronic throttle system, the acclerator pedal is still connected via wire to the throttle body. At the throttle body is where the electronic sensory starts (i.e. digital throttle position sensor), so you can tighten up the throttle cable a bit (to get a very slight pull on the throttle position to raise the idle speed about 50-100 rpms higher at idle to prevent it from doing its "rough idle dance" with the A/C off and in drive while at a full stop. Do NOT adjust the idle any higher than necessary or it'll lurch everytime you take off at a stoplight.

omegagavin - I have a 2000 GS400. Rough idle / cut out happened once on my car on a hot day with AC off when I came to a stop. I cleaned the throttle body which a friend said might be the problem. No problems since. I recommend you do this.

I think the reason it happens on 98 and 99s more than 2000s is because they generally have more miles and dirt in the throttle body.
