Thumbs up Wholly Crap............. TC finally installed at SRT !!!!!

What was I thinking. I can not believe I did not install the TC earlier. I been on the board a very long time and I always been on the fence about installing the TC or not. Could not justify the price for the parts and install. If I knew how the car would drive after the TC install....this would of been my first mod PERIOD. This is exactly what my GS was missing. Before I would slam the throttle down and not be able to spin the tires. Now slamming the throttle will spin the tires quite easily with the VSC on and smoke them with the VCS off.

Left my home in NJ at 4:30 am yesterday on way down to SRT in maryland. Mo was ready and waiting at 9:00 am for me. TC was installed and oil change done and completed at 12pm. I was curious how much power my GS had so we did 3 runs on the dyno. 2 runs where with the TC locked and 1 run was with the TC on. I will post with dyno charts on a separate thread. All I have is SRT intake with Race ECU. Stock GS RWHP is at 225. My GS clocked in at 263 hp. That is + 38 horsepower increase to the rear wheels. Even Mo was shocked with the dyno results. We did another run to prove this was not a fluke and the chart matched perfectly to the prior run. He said this is one of the best dynos they seen on a GS with SRT intake.

As for the 0-60mph. My best possible run on a G-timer was at 5.95 seconds pre TC install. That was very hard to score and I only broke into 5 second range twice out of maybe 15 runs.
After TC install I ran the car 2 times from 0-60mph. Mo ran it once while testing with him and myself in the car, and with my exhaust and stock TC in the trunk. With all this extra weight he still managed to run a 0-60mph in 87 degree humid weather at 5.65 seconds. I was really blown away. As for traction I don't think this will be an issue for me. I thought with stock 17 inchers, I would be always lighting up the tires when I accelerate. I have very sticky Eagle GS-D3 245/45/17 summer tires which helps me keep my traction but will break lose when you really gun it. If I were running all season tires with a slightly harder compound I would be spinning a lot more and hence a need for maybe an LSD. I was able to get one run in today with all the crap out of the trunk and half tank of gas. Ran a 5.47 seconds run to 60mph. I am now one very happy GS owner. Bring it on!

Wow that is a great writeup. How much was the part and install? I hate the way the GS shifts and would be very interested in this mod if it fixes that lag problem.

This is NOT the TC that was part of the group buy. Mo at SRT ordered it.....I know the stall speed is at 2850 and its by Dragon. I believe that means all the car's torque kicks in at that speed.
You should really call MO at SRT for prices. You can find more info on the TC offered by SRT www.swiftracing.com

I have to thank Omegagavin. When I saw that vid of his car after the TC install is what got me motivated to get mine. I think I called SRT that day and ordered me one

For those of who have not seen it....here is the VIDEO

Now you fully understand why I titled my thread on my TC what I did! Great write-up!

There is absolutely no LAG. The car is seems to be in right gear at all times with power on tap. Even shifting into higher or lower gears is done so quickly reducing lag time. E-shift buttons are quicker up and down. It does not have to hunt for the gear which causes the LAG times.

Chris, I totally know what you mean now.

Now I can at least lay down 2 lines of rubber as my signature picture shows.

Congrats! That's just awesome. I wish the 300s would be a big of a bang-for-the-buck upgrade. I guess I'll just have to get myself more power to play with.

The TC from SRT is the PI. The PI recommended stall speed is 2800. Maybe Mo found that 2850 is a little better for our cars and got that setup for you.

Yes,
I think SRT orders the dragon TC from precision industries with the 2850 stall speed. Also, PI warranties the item for 2 years with one free stall adjustment. I guess Mo found that the 2850 stall speed works best on the GS400. He was involved in the testing phase with PI to help them develop the TC for the GS in the beginning so they could intially offer there product for Lexus GS owners.

That is exactly why I went 200 miles out of my way to get the TC installed by SRT. SRT really know there stuff.

Wow, this is making me itch real bad to get me a TC too. I wonder since my transmission is essentially a Supra TT automatic (A340E) transmission, I should probably get a higher stall, like 4000rpm, TC. I wanna look deeper into this me thinks.
