Default Question about 90,000 mile service

At the 90,000 mile marker, i should take my car up to Lexus and have it serviced, correct? When i take it there, what do they do to service my car for 90,000 miles? And, can i do this myself, and save myself money? Thanks,

John

I would take it to them, for my GS400 it was a major service, They replaced the timing chain, replaced the water pump and some other stuff. But the timing chain alone is enough reason to take it to them

I could be wrong but I believe it was a chain they said. In any event even chains stretch over time and have to be replaced. But remember you have to take the timing cover and other stuff off to get to it. They change the waterpump at the same time becuase they have a MTBF around 100K so you save on the labor since all that ****ff is already taken apart.

Default 90k service

I'm a certified Lexus Technician in the San Diego area. Every dealership might do things a little differently but they are still similar. At 90k your car would get: timing BELT replacement, coolant replacement(all Lexus dealers are now using 50/50 Toyota brand pre-diluted long life coolant which lasts up to 100k miles), spark plug replacement(if they were not changed at 60k-or if your car has platinum tipped plugs which do get replaced at 90k depending on year/model), rotate and balance tires, brake inspection, differential fluid replacement, engine air filter replacement, A/C filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, oil change. If the service advisor tries to upsell things like brake pad replacement and/or tire replacement make sure that they tell you the measurements first=brakes:2mm thickness. tires:2/32nds anything less than 2/32nds has to be replaced because it's illegal to be driving on tires past the wear bar. That goes for uneven edge wear inside or out(if tires are replaced because of edge wear make sure to get an alignment also. Hope you can use this info-as far as doing this service yourself or going anywhere besides a Lexus dealer, I would'nt recommend it, you could be asking for trouble.

Default price 4 90k

At the dealership I work at a major service like a 90k would cost around $1,000-$1,300, but believe me it's worth it.

Thanks Lextech, i'm not going to do this myself, there are a few things i cannot do that are on your list, i do not have the equiptment and/or do not know how to do it at this moment, so i am definately going to to it to my local lexus dealer and have them perform this. After 90K, when is the next time i should have this performed?

Don't get me wrong..... but Lexus independent shop will and can do a lot less. BTW, are you going to the RX400h trainning?

I would probably get the 120k service done at the dealer. As far as oil changes and minor services go, I wold go to an independent shop.-- Isthis the same john with the Junction Produce GS4??

Toyota service shops, if you don't want to change your own oil yourself, will give you the same oil and Toyota filters at roughly half the price of a Lexus shop. And, if you don't trust the dealer's oil, you can buy and bring in whatever brand you want ( I like regular dino Castrol GTX myself ) and get a credit for it. Lexus shops, for some things, are a rip-off.

off topic...

I was wondering how my name came up here? lol

JohnGS4, get the 90K service... that timing belt doesnt sound to fun...

what am I going to do for my 90K service? Up until I added all my JP stuff, I was servicing the car at a local Lexus dealership. Looks like I might have to do this stuff myself.
