Default Turbo questions

Now I'm highly taking into consideration turboing my 98 gs3, but what scares me is the transmission problems i may run into. The owner of IMP in Clifton, NJ told me that tuned correctly i should put out about 430hp at 12lbs of boost with an hks headgasket meaning the head would be at lower compression or 380hp withough the headgasket at 8lbs of boost. This includes single turbo, intercooler, bov, injectors, etc... Now i know the stock tranny is good for more or less 350hp. He told me that since i already havea 2800 stall torque converter(precision industries)and a transmission cooler, that i shouldnt encounter any problems with the tranny. What you guys think? Those of you who have turbo'd what did you do as far as transmission upgrades?

This is an easy one. Put the turbo kit on the car and run it until you blow the tranny.....then you will know if you need to replace it!

Im serious too....if it blow...then get it built!

Not exactly!

If you do blow it, send it to Boostlogic to have it built the right way for high HP. I would run that b*#tch until it blew, then have it "built". Of course, if you have the cash...the right thing to do would be to build it right off the bat....but that might be unnecessary.

When you do things like turbo a NA car, you are going to run into other things that will need to be strenghtened up.....its all part of the game.

STAY AWAY FROM IMP!!!!!!!!!

I went to them back in march 2003 to talk about bodywork and turbo'ng my IS300....I've heard they botched a few SC300's in the past.....and very iffy work on Supra's....

how much do they want to charge for for the entire turbo kit and install???

BEWARE....

you are better off getting a kit from SRT, or www.turboeast.com, as IS300 turbo kits can easily be adapted for the GS....

good luck....

damn really, i hear they've dont some bad work on some rx8s and what not but i hear their work on supras is not so bad. Joe is a really good guy. Now you're making me think twice. $7500 including the headgasket and injectors

Hmm...I think you should stick with the more-known professionals like Sound Performance or SRT. By the way, a stock A340E transmission is good enough for 450rwhp, not 350rwhp. Just a FYI.

Interesting trivia to say the least.................. In other words a GS400 boosted to about 370 RWHP is very conservative?

Heres my take on it... its always recommended to get EVERYTHING BUILT.. if you already gonna shell out lots of cash for FI.. dont cheap out and NOT get everything else built. If you have no more cash to get the tranny PROPERLY done then dont bother doing it....it will save you big headaches later on. This is of course just IMHO.

i doubt the gs300 tranny will last at 450. once the tranny starts seeing 350 or so, from what i have read, you need to upgrade.

thats funny someone mention boostlogic...they have a guy named "stupid" that works there or use to work there not sure anymore. he boosted his LS integra with 16-18lbs all with stock internals, i am not totally sure about lbs but it was similar in range. hes well known in texas for his expertisees in tunning.

I think he spells it like this "Stoopid". THere's some crazy *** honda/acura tuners out there. Alot of DIY tuning with burning their own chips.

I was about to head that route when i had my 91 CRX. Got my tubo and everything then decided to ditch the crx and got myself a gs300
