Question Cost for 3.76 lsd install

Guys:
Need some help. I have a 3.76 lsd from RMM comming this week for my GS430. I called the Lexus Dealer (Hendrick Lexus in Charlotte NC) for an estimate. When I spoke to the service manager, he really could not give me an install price because he wanted to see the unit. first. However, he did say worst case about 3 to 4 hours which works out to about 320 bucks. To me this sounds a bit high considering that from everything I've read on this forum the lsd is a direct bolt on. Any opinions on what a reasonable cost should be? Also, anyone know of any GOOD shops in Charlotte who can do the install? And one last dumb question, do I need to get the car re-aliged after the install?

i think around 2hrs but dealers go by book time so they might have it listedas 3-4 hours

so even if they do it 2hrs minutes they still charge you 3-4 hrs time

also you dont have to get the car aligned

do you have any DIY skills ??

Thanks, I'll check it out. As for dyi, on a scale of 1 to 10 , I rate myselt a 2. When it comes to cars, I was able to install l-tune side skirts and grill myself but that's about it.

Interest stuff....after looking at the install directions, me thinks it best to get someone to do the job. I'll stick to
grills, side skirts , and wheel changes.

well also provided that you have the right tools to lift this stupidly heavy 100lb ****... it's damn heavy

the install isn't hard, it's direct pumpkin replacement, just a matter of take it out and put it in

2 hours i would say

Takes about 2 hours to install. It took just over that for me, cause I had the toms 6piece links and rear brace they had to remove in addition. But if you do not have these pieces, expect to pay for about 2 hours of labor which is a fair price.

Your crack me up. Even if I could lift that **** (as rominl callls it) I'm sure I'd end up with spare parts after the install. Last thing I need is for that bad boy to fall off while I'm trying to suprize a 540 (Im de-badged) at the light.

I got my 3.76 lsd delivered today. After talking with the service manager (I e-mail him a picture of it)
he came back with $235 for install and he'll let me watch. May not be the lowest price but their the only Lexus dealer in town. Anyway, I'll have this done last week of Dec while I'm on vacation. I also spoke to Blair at RMM and asked about what oil he recommends and he said regular Toyota diff oil will work just fine. Any one have opinions on this? Thanks

Rheily,
Good question. I had to choose which oil for my LSD and I eventually went with the Redline synthetic.
