Default 1jz in a 2nd Gen GS300?

Hey guys, i'm currently looking at a 1998 GS300 and i'm a little dissapointed with the performance of the 2jzge.. Unfortunately, in my price range, i wont be able to afford a gs4. I noticed that the 1jz-gte engine from the japanese soarer is extremely inexpensive and produces impressive horsepower from an even smaller motor than the 2jz (better performance and imporved gas mileage) and i was wondering if anyone had any experience on this task..

I've done some searching and from what i've found, the 1998 IS drive-by-wire but is also controlled by a throttle cable for back up in case the DBW motor fails. I'm not sure about the schematics of the ECU harness but i would like to keep VSC if i swapped this motor in. I suppose i could use the origional 1jz ecu but wouldn't that eliminate the traction control?

>280hp for less than $900.00?! sounds good to me

never heard of it being done before, but with money everything is possible, though i think it's going to cost a lot of money, and youw ill need a lot of work on the fitting the tranny and also getting the ecu to work too.

with the money you will need to spend, i think it might be a better idea to just get the gs4

btw, your sig is way too big, please reduce it

sorry bout that

I was reading about BadAssGS3T's car.. he put a vvt-i 2jz-gte in his 2002 gs with the stock tranny and it seems the only real problem he had was when he tried using the non vvt-i motor in his DBW GS.. i'm thinking if everything bolts up correctly, it would just be a matter of figuring out the wiring.. Is there anyone on here that has any real hands on experience with these motors and knows thier certain differences?

u should be able to do it, but you would need new ECU, new harness, new tranny, and most likely new (custom) engine and tranny mounts. the main reason is that, if i recall correcty, the 2jz is almost an entirely different motor from the 1jz. The 2jz GTE would bolt right up using factory mounts, harness(with a little work) and fuel etc. since the GTE is merely a variation of the 2jz-ge. additionally, if my memory is right then the VSC and trac. is all integrated into the ECU so if u swap ecu then ul most likely lose those functions unless the car ur taking the motor from had them as well.

good luck!

thanks for the sig work

about the engine, again i have never really studied it, but i don't think it's going to be easy, it's going to be harder than putting in the gte engine for sure. i am not sure if the tranny will bolt up neither, which could be a pretty serious problem too

Indeed, I'm not the type of person to venture into new grounds like that too.. i dont have either the time nor emergency money to try such a thing (emergency meaning i'd have nothing to fall back on).. Oh well, i'll check into the 2jz-gte when the time comes then. Thanks for your help everyone!
