Borla Vs. Other Brands
I looked in the old threads and really did see what I was looking for I what to know how you guy's feel about the BORLA exhaust system vs. others brand's. I like the way BORLA look on Dave GS4. Dave you say your system is cat-back BORLA doesn't make a cat-back system for the GS what part number is your system and how did you get those tips. When you guy's had it installed did you remove the resonator from the stock exhaust. And do you feel you made the right choice after seeing other syst***s at shows or meets. I want to hear your feedback on this thread so any and all info will help!

Sorry, didn't see this thread until just now.
I've had my Borla exhaust on since late 1999/early 2000 so I can't really help with the part numbers, etc that stuff is long gone, lol.. You can get those from the Borla website I believe, but the picture of the GS on it isn't with the right tips.
http://www.borla.com/applications/lo...Section/11733/
Part # 11733 I found out recently that our CL vendor TM Engineering carries Borla exhaust, and many members have also bought them from places like Summit Racing.
I personally like Borla for a number of reasons:
Warranty - Borla gives you a 'million mile warranty' http://www.borla.com/warranty/ , which is effectively a lifetime warranty. http://www.borla.com/warranty/
Sound - I love the sound of the Borla over others I've heard. Not too soft, not too loud. It isn't obtrusive in the cabin but when you mash the gas you definitely hear it. I've heard quite a few exhausts in person (and also on the exhaust competition DVDs) and still prefer it over the others. In terms of comparison, both the L-tuned and Apexi are quite similar in tone to Borla IMO, with the L-tuned exhaust being slightly louder at WOT. If you want a 'loud' and constantly aggressive exhaust, this is not the one for you. I would not go as far as to call the Borla subtle, but it is definitely milder than many other alternatives during regular driving - but still sounds mean when you mash it at WOT.
Mo at SRT did my intial exhaust install, and I'm honestly not sure if he left on the stock resonator. I believe even though Borla themselves classify this exhaust as 'cat back' they're really axle back.
Look
I think the oval tips of the Borla fit the OEM rear exhaust cutouts better than any other exhaust I've seen. Still subtle but noticably more aggressive (are you sensing a theme here, lol), they fill out the cutouts perfectly. The mufflers are nicely tucked up under the car without having big cannisters hanging down. No offense to those with exhaust like that, but I'm personally not a fan of that look. I prefer it to be a bit more muted - without the big coffee can tips and dragging cans out back. Just my opinion, I know a lot of people like that aggressive look and I don't knock 'em for it.
Pic of original Borla tips on my GS with OEM rear bumper
When I got my L-sportline rear bumper, the fittment of my Borla exhaust as aligned on the OEM bumper was about two inches too short so it was inset.... had to be changed. I had to either extend the exhaust, put new tips on (also extending it) or get an entirely new exhaust. I've had a set of 'new style' Borla tips for quite some time that I bought from another forum member on a whim, and in the end decided to get them welded onto the exhaust to line up with the rear bumper. Word of advice - be VERY picky with this and do not accept anything that isn't exactly where you want it. I made them move one of my tips that was probably off so little that only I would ever see it, but I knew it would bug me every time I saw it.
I'll put in a few pics to give you different perspective. I *think* these tips are similar to the ones that come on Borlas for the GS now, perhaps someone who has bought them more recently can chip in.
Interior of these exhaust tips do need to be cleaned every time you wash the car. Here's what they look like clean
Other comments
Performance - I don't believe Borla (or any other manufacturer's) claims for HP increases. IMO on the GS you don't see the kind of improvements that you sometimes get on other cars.
Bottom line - if you like a subtle but noticeable exhaust (sound and looks), value a great warranty these might be for you. If you think you might want something that is loud or like the look of big tips, definitely don't get these or you'll end up changing them.

Dave thank's for the great info, man I love your CAR the style is just right!!! But you didn't say anything about the removal of the resonator. I think I will purchase the BORLA as I found it on the net for $484.00 shipped to my door. You pretty much nailed it down thats, the sound I am looking for V-8 "RUMBLE" not to big either. I have one other question's for you why no wood on the wheel or a least black wood? This site is the BEST one out there and I am gald there's guy's like you out there.

I've got a wood wheel on my LS and I actually prefer for spirited 'driving' the feel of the all-leather wheel. I agree the airbag cover is a little bland compared to the GS430, I've been trying to think of some creative things to do with it.

Borla
Kid,
The Borla "Catback" system are just the rear mufflers. I installed a set on my GS430 a few week ago. The stock resonators remain in place. I love the sound of these mufflers. They fit the image of this car just perfectly in my opinion. But then again, I don't like lound mufflers on ricers. Your mileage may vary.

Looks very similar if not exactly them.
I bought mine from DrewGS4 on CL and the dimensions of the two sets he had look pretty much like those.

i didn't remove the res on my set either. i love the borla for the soft sound when driveing slow and hard sound when ripping itno it. but i really just loved the size. i didn't want some big cans( no offense to anyone) hanging from my rear or visible. some exhaust you can see from far away or up close just haning down under the bumper from the rear and sides. i like them to be tucked away under with the tips flowing out...but i think the sound of the Borlas is mush stronger on the gs4 than the gs3.
