Here's a flow chart from .Net that will help give everyone a good idea about the limits of an IS/GS300 car when going Forced Induction...
There are some very valid points being said here. Basically, it comes down to what you want your car to do. If you want a fast GS300 (400RWHP+) , then be ready to spend $15-25k on a good turbo setup, stand alone ECU, rebuild engine internals, tranny rebuild, install & tune, gauges, etc.
Many Super Chargers for the IS/GS 300 offer decent HP for the money. For under $10k, you can get 280-325 RWHP no problem. Install by a shop usually takes less than 6-10 hours with FMIC setup which is great for the pocket book. But getting more HP is where it get's tough. A smaller pulley can be added and offer more boost but then belt slippage is usually a problem. More boost from your SC produces more heat which slowly wears out the bearings in the charger.
All in all, IMO---> most IS/GS300 owners who go the Super Charger route, do this for safe and reliable HP, and/or don't have the funds for a good turbo setup.
Rule of thumb for anyone going F.I. in their IS/GS300 is too have enough cash in the bank to rebuild your motor. Cuz, somewhere down the line, it's bound to happen...
