Default Putting in 10-w30 instead of 5-w30

Hey guys, about 100 miles ago, I decided to change my oil. Went to autozone and picked up some mobil 1 synthetic oil, and the lady there said that if im not going to be in a below zero climate, I should use 10-w30 instead of 5-w30. First off, is this okay for my car? if it's not i'll drain the oil and replace, but if so, why is that okay for above zero climates?

Thanks

isn't 5w-30 for new/newer cars with low mileage??/

10w-30 should be fine-thats standard weight

I use Mobile 1 10w-30 in my GS300. It has about 46,000 miles. Its better for the south cuz of the hotter weather. It doesnt get that cold here.

She's got it in reverse. The lower the number before the "w", the better (higher viscosity) it is for winter below zero weather.

For me personally, I only use 15w-50 on my car because i live in the tropics, and my car is twin turbo, perfect formula for SUPER HOT weather.

But then again, I think Lexus recommends 10w-30 or 10w-40 for their cars, even Supra TT in the US also use 10w-40. I think you should just stick to that.

Right on my oil cap it says 5W30. I was tempted to use 10w30 'cause I just picked up a case for my girlfriends car but since it gets unhumanly cold here, I think I better stick to the 5W30

I live in Virginia. Would it bother the car if I used 5w30 in the winter and 10w30 in the summer? I use Mobil1 synthetic. Thanks

You'll be fine, especially since its synthetic. There is no harm is going with lower viscosity oils unless you live in the artic or Sahara desert.

Thanks a bunch guys. Yeah as I live only a lil ways from gammalex, it barely barely ever gets below freezing unless at the dead of night, and if that happens its a miracle for houston.

Gotta love CL.

Thanks again

no she didn't get it reverse. blue he's in texas, it hardly gets under zero, so no need to use 5

and of course, for FI cars, i think 15w is good for your

like others said, the spec is 5w-30, but using 10w30 is no problem as long as it doesn't get too cold

Correction, in houston it *NEVER* gets below zero.

Some of the perks of living in texas, always warm weather.

Is there a Mobile 1 Synthetic Oil in the 5W-30 for higher mileage engines? Last time I went for oil change they put in Mobile 1 synthetic 5W-30 but I saw on there website that there are different types of oils that can be used with the same grading depending on engine/mileage
