it's best to go to a qualified mechanic and have them test it. i think some suspension shops also do this.

i knew my ball joints were going when i went up a drive way and i heard a cunk sound.

I did, and had them replaced along with getting a wheel bearing replaced. Man, my car drives like brand new ever since!!

good deal Jerry sounds like she's nice and fresh now.

EDIT: Just learned how old this thread is. So I guess your car is worn out again by now, huh Jerry?

Had mine replaced at 80k miles. They were inspected on the car and looked/felt fine, but once removed, it was easy to see that they had a lot of play in them. The steering wheel shakes went away once the new ball joints went in (although, in all fairness, I also had the shock replaced at the same time, so that might have had something to do with it).

So if your ball joints snap and you bring your car in under warranty and you're sporting 20's.... is it still covered?
I'm covered to 100k also, and damn happy about it. Sure I paid a little more for the car, but I don't have to think about any squeak or rattle. I just run till it breaks and bring it in. My dealers is pretty cool, they are even fixing annoying rattles under warranty. Try that at a GM, Ford, or DCX.
