If you install the TC, let us know if you get the cel light. Also, can you check your build date. Its located on the driver side. Mine is Oct 2000

What to do I'm really getting tempted to go for it . I doubt I would ever go the FI route so the only thing better than 3.76 is a tc. Any Lexus tech out there reading this? Would like to hear from you.

Personally I think the tc makes my car more responsive when I hit the gas from a stop of very low speeds. Honestly though, I don't notice a difference in how fast it is overall. I like the way the car drives better, and you don't have that sluggish feeling when you push the gas from a stop. But if you're looking to make your car faster - I don't personally notice a difference. Hopefully, if I can find a 3.76 lsd, that will make more of a noticable diff. in acceleration.

Default Some bad information

mdwtexas - tried to pm you but (something) wouldn't allow it?
just read your post and I've gotta say that the gentleman that told you the horror stories about the tc really doesn't know what he's talking about. Not a knock on him - I'm sure that he knows a lot about what he usually does - just not about how a tc will affect your GS. Mine was installed by Davenport Motors in Plano. The owners (the 3 Davenport brothers) and 7-8 of their mechanics all came from Sewell Lexus and have many years of experience on them. They have an excellent reputation (even still among Sewell and Park Place mechanics). There was no concern about longevity or any other problem when they installed mine (about 3 years ago) and I couldn't be happier with it. No one - NO ONE - could drive the same car without a tc and drive it after and say that there was no improvement - that is plain bull**** - the man doesn't know what he's talking about. If you've read the threads on CL relative to the tc - you've seen numerous members (including me) who think that it is the single best thing I did to my '99 GS4. Let me know if I can help to convince you to take it somewhere else and do it.

Talking

I have a 2001 GS430 and I got bored the other day. I already have the Supra rear end(3.76 with LSD). So I called up SRT and ordered myself a TC. Mo said I will have it in 2-3 weeks so I will let you know if I get the CEL.

That's great news. Do you feel an even bigger difference with the TC now? As for miles, good to hear no cel after 300 . Let us know if still no cel after 1k miles

UPDATE - today my cel came on after about 500 miles with the PI TC. I though it must be something else because I've driven about 500 miles with the TC with no CEL so far. Anyway, I had it checked and the code was from the shift solonoid - so I'm guessing it does in fact have something to do with the TC. Anyway, the parts store guy cleared the cel - i'll let you guys know if/when it comes back on - hopefully it won't.

That 's exactly what happened to some of the un-lucky GS owners with PI TC. It's error code E0770. You will get the CEL after another 200-300 miles.I had a detailed discussion with my reputable tranny shop. They told me due to the big rpm differences between input/output shafts, the ECU detected it as TC slippage and set the error. I even asked them to disable the tranny sensor, but they told me if I do so, there's no input to tranny ECU so the car will not be drivable

There's no solution to this CEL situation until you swap back the stock TC

Maybe the solution is to get less of a step up in stall speed. Maybe a 2400 would work without CEL but still give a nice increase in acceleration.
