Default any GS430 w/TorqueConverter

is your check engine light on? heard that 430's cant get TQ because of the CEL

haha seems like i am always the one answering your question and you keep on asking!

yes i know 2 people first hand with gs430 and the tc, both have their cel on constantly becuase of the tc. and one of the two guys, his friend also has gs430 with the tc and has the cel on as well

I remember one cl member on this board post a while ago that the TC on his 430 does not light up the cel. However, from what I've read in the past on CL, chances are that a TC will light up the cel on the 430. Installing a TC won't hurt the 430, but you could have problems with emission testing in states where they use OBDII testing. In Charlotte, NC, 1st thing the inspection station asks is if you have a cel on. If so, take it to the dealer. If you re-set the ecu prior to going to emission testing, you also run the risk that there will not be enough drive cycles recorded and the emission test will not work due to "too many - not ready" readiness codes.
Once you get enough drive cycles, chances are the cel will come back on. Call it stuck between a rock and a hard place. For me, the best alternative was the install of the 3.76lsd. Gets the gs going quicker and no cel to worry about.

yeah that's correct, for states like CA you might be in trouble. but i know a lot of stations they just do the old style smog check and they don't care what you are up to

and yup there is a gs430 member that i recall with the tc but no cel

i guess no gs430 has it cause no one replied yet, i do plan to get the LSD but i thought i would get the TQ 1st since i do alot of city driving, it would've helped alot for light to light .i cant find a used 1 so 1 am going to order one from MIKE its under $1600 any body do the valve body on the tranny?

I assume you mean 3.76 lsd for 1600 - right? A tc runs about 900. Anyway, the 3.76 gear will also give you a big kick off the line and pull hard in every gear all the way to the top. There's no mistaken the increase in performance.. you'll feel it right away.

i don't know how you can get the lsd though, since it's discontinued already, unless it's ordered before toyota took out the part number couple weeks back

I have 2001, w/TC. CEL has never come on.

no CEL? which TQ do you have? i called for LSD. and its still available.

same here , i bought my 01 in oct of 04
what types of codes does the CEL come on for, does it put the GS into limp mode and affect performance, or is the CEL something that i can just ignore? i cant drive a lexus with CEL on, its just not rite

if i install TC and get CEL. can i just take out the bulb that lights up the CEL in the dash? and what kind of code does it show if the car was hooked up to a computer? does the "CEL MODE" have any effect on my car? like make it go into limp mode. need that off the line kick,
