Default 98-04 gs300, which motor best for swap ? Non-vvti or vvti 2jz-gte ?

I have done searches but seem to come up with info from older 2003/2004 forum threads and I would like to know what is the experience of those with or have experience with the a 98-04 gs300 and the TT Aristo 2jz-gte swap ! Pros and Cons of either motor and any/all experiences, hurdles, references etc. would be greatly appreciated ! I have seen and spoke to only 2 people with these swaps, one with the non-vvti TT 2jz and one with the vvti ! So I am looking for more advice so I can make the right decision ! I am also in South Florida so if there is a local exmples/shops I am willing to drive to see and learn ! Thanks in advance guys !

i would stay away from the vvti because it uses the obdII computer As far as I know 93.5 to 96 used obdI. I'm not for sure, but I think I was told the vvti was more limited in power production than the non vvti. It was still powerfull, but only up to maybe 800bhp.. One small detail about the obdI computer is that you cant just take it to autozone for a check engine light, but I think you can use a multimeter as long as you have the factory troubleshooting guide. Try to look around www.mkiv.com they normally have some decent resourses plus www.supraforums.com

Good luck man

IMO, I would use the non-vvit motor and get a supra ECU. All US TT supras came with the non-vvti motor, regardless of if the car was obdI or obdII.

well u can always buy a usdm 2jz motor but you'll need to buy those egr plate covers.... and a lot of other stuff

im pretty sure u'll need a vvti motor bc even SC guys use vvti motors...

Well, my assumption is you are looking for power.. and the non-vvit motor is more then capable you giving you as much power as you want.... i think the record is like 1520rwhp through an automatic..... with the non-vvit you don't hae to reinvent the wheel is has all been done before. supraforums.com.

Go with the non-vvit.

Besides actually paying about 1k more for a vvt-i I have to agree with Pimp. The non vvt-i motor is much easier to make do want you want it to do. A lot of guys come across issues cuz the electrical with the vvt-i jap version to american is so tricky. Plus limits are hard to get around with the vvt-i when swapped in to american cars. I went with the non vvt-i swap and only thing I lost was traction control which I didn't use anyway or want . I'm not even useing a management system right now just running it stock jap harness to my car, everything is running fine and strong. Later adding something simple like s-afc and a little tune and your set for not a ot of money. Of course we can talk about doing AEM with this motor and really start to have fun When shopping I got lots of feedback on both motor swaps and everything I was told and heard was that I would be better off with the non vvt-i. Their are guys here Burton and badassgs3 who have vvt-i swaps maybe they could shed some light.
