i would be very skeptical about what you got there (unless they mysteriously changed the housing for whatever reason)
btw, yes, the gear in the pic (right one) is the worm gear

synco answered my pm yesterday. he said it's from a jdm 96 supra tt auto, and that it's the same as the one he has in his GS, and his has an LSD.
i've asked a friend to come by and help me crack it open when he gets off work today. hopefully i can put an end to all this confusion i've created.

Hey TLW, I guess I'm one of those lucky ones you are referring to. My stock differential gives me 'two black marks' all day long........as long as it's in a straight line.
The instant I make a turn, or a difference in the load on each of the rear tires, she goes ot a single wheel burnout.
that being said, it kinda makes you wonder how Synco thinks he has a true LSD unit. maybe he doesn't.
Cant wait to hear the updates Benj.

things did not work out last night. my friend couldn't come.
i tried to take the cover off myself. i put the diff up on some 2x4's and a small container underneath, but i couldn't get any leverage with my little socket tool set. 4 of the bolts would not let go.
i don't know what else to do

call me chicken**** but i'm really hesitant to try anything. i do little mechanical work because whatever i touch breaks, and in a very expensive way.
but the more time i let this sit the more questions remain unanswered, not to mention a very small window/grace period to get help from paypal.

Ben, I do not know about the "small grace period" with Paypal but I have to tell you that if **I** were in your shoes I would be making that my main course of action at this point and everything else is just a "do it if you can make it happen" scenario.
Would you rather lose $100 in shipping or $1000?
If your socket set is the normal 3/8" and you are using a *6 point* socket, then I honestly believe you are safe to put some serious force on it. If you are using 1/4" rachets and sockets, then I'm not as confident. Also, the 6 point sockets fit much better than a 12pt socket on the tight stuff.
1. Have you looked for another Toyota or Lexus Dealer, even if it's 20 miles away?
2. Have you considered mentioning the need of an experienced tech and only 10 minutes of his time to a Toyota or Lexus Dealer *Manager*. I would think they would feel your pain and offer up the 10 minutes!
3. Have you kept trying to get info from Sync357? The last I read, I think he kinda brushed you off and said "it's an LSD, It's just like mine". Well, can he prove it? I'm curious how he would know?
4. Have you posted pics on a SUPRA-ONLY website yet for their opinions? (more confirmation as to whether ANY/ALL Supra TT Auto's had those fins that are NOT on your rearend. You should mention the urgency due to the grace period running out.
In summary, you DO need to get that cover off, you DO need to have some kind of experienced person confirm it's origin, then you can work that PayPal grace period thing if you need to. Do not let that slip away.

to me, even if that means another 50 bucks or so to get a mechanic to open it up, i would. you need that peace of mind to make sure you have the right stuff. and the longer it takes the worse it is imho.
and i agree, if you are using 1/4" drive wrench, don't use it, that's too weak. 3/8 at the least, and 1/2 if you want power.

thanks for the advice everyone. right now i'm dead in the water. because of my work hours there is no way i can make it to any mechanic before closing hours.
i only have a 1/4" drive because the bolts are so small. i just can't get any leverage out of it.
in summary, synco says he dosen't do bull**** and that it is an lsd. because i can't prove anything at this point, i cannot give a response.
damn.

not that many. if there are, it's usually not a full day and they are quite busy.
i made an appointment again with the toyota dealer. they told me to drop it off in the morning and they will try and fit it in again. hopefully more news tomorrow about this.

Did you do that check to find out the gear ratio yet? Dude, you need to do that.
If it's a 3.23 gear, then someone has some 'splainin to do!
PS. PM me and I can shoot you my cell phone number if my description of how to check it wasn't clear in the other post.
PPS. You sound like you're being a bit too nice to Sync357. He sold you a Supra LSD rear end but yet he hasn't offered any PROOF that that's actually what it is.
