Default magnaflow 14829 vs 14851

Ive searched the forum for comparisons between Magnaflow 14829 and 14851, they are the exact same specs...only difference is that one is Street and one is Race....i know some of you have 14829's installed on your cars....and might know the difference between them and the race series ones, please help, im about to order them for my gs400 and want to make the right choice, thanks in advance .

quick note, i want a deep, throaty sound, not a LOUD annoying sound... i was about to order the street series...but then i noticed race and i was curious to HOW much different the growl was.

Get the Street series Tone. The race series sounds high pitched and weak. It does not have any packing material in it, thus is does not sound deep.

well the problem is im thinkin about keeping the piping stock for now, so i wanna make sure i still get a strong low-toned growl from the exhaust...do you think the 14829's growl is enough with the stock piping?

note : i do NOT want a LOUD sound, i want a strong low-tone.

Personally, I like my Borla's over Magnaflows. Listened to both and Borla was a little louder than stock but can't be heard during cruise. Rest of my system is stock. Get comments on the sound especially at start up. I listened to Magnaflows and was a little too loud. But they are alot cheaper in cost.

I've got the 14851's on my SC400 - posted a few sound clips a while back, but I don't think they're still active on putfile.com - here's a post with pics. I like them - they do not sound "weak" if anything they're ballsier than what I've heard from the 14829 equipped SC4 - but to be honest any sound is subjective and in the ear of the beholder, so to speak. Although, I used mine in conjunction with an X-Pipe so that may have altered the sound a bit as well. I'll try to repost some sound clips for you when I get a chance.

NP, Oh and it's full mandrel bent throughout - although, that probably only makes a slight difference in sound.

Yup, when you get custom piping make sure the place you are going to has the machine to do mandrel bending. The crimp crap some place do, just makes the exhaust flow more restrictive.

hey tone, did you go with the Magnaflow 14829 or the 14851? hows it going so far? did you get the deep throaty sound you were aiming for? Im curious to ask cause you see, I have the magnaflow 14851 and love it, they are cheaper on ebay but I wanted a warranty (the salt on the roads here in winter kills an exhaust) so I got it here magnaflow 14851, or you can try one of the vendors here, they are always running sales/specials. either way its a great system and very easy to install.. post in some clips if you can, it would be great for comparison. thanks
