Post Need Horses - Supercharger/Turbocharger for my 1999 GS400

Hi Everyone -

I'm new to the forum, and I'm enjoying reading the info here.

I have a 1999 GS400, all stock, and I'm feeling the need for a lot more horsepower. I've been searching around for superchargers, and am coming up empty.

I did get a message back from a guy who will do a custom twin-turbo system, but for a whopping $35k installed. This is way out of my price range...

So, here's what I'd like to find out:

1. Is a supercharger available for a 1999 GS400? If so, please send manufacturer, part number if possible.
2. If the supercharger is not an option, then what are some good alternatives?? I'd love the twin turbo above, but my wife would go nuts...

Thanks in advance for the input!

superchargers were made for a short period of time by a company called RMM or rod millen motorsports. They no longer produce the kit, you may be able to buy a used one they do come up for sale in the classifieds from time to time.

I used to have one.

I now have a Custom Turbo setup and am very happy with it. I have a 98 GS400, the guys that did mine are in GA and I think want 10K for there setup

Any other suggestions that would fit into my budget?

I appreciate your response.

nope unfortunately it sounds like you are out of luck even the RMM kits are about 4500 -5000 used, then you have install costs and whatever incidentals come up Since there isnt a huge aftermarket support for our cars we are really limited in what we can do and how much it costs.

I bought the RMM supercharger kit used - and right now I am up to close to $7000 after all is said and done and it isn't running up to full potential.

If the kit ever comes up for sale - you should be at about $4500 for it. Then add on everything else you are going to need + install and you will be where I am. Good luck though,

Jonny

For the 2GS, $5k is on the low side. Parts is one thing, but install, tuning and incidentals will af a few more ks. How much depends how far you want the setup to go.

Where I live a turbo kit for my 430 would be pretty cheap. That standalone would be the most expensive item. I could easily turbo my gs for well under 5k US installed, if I wanted to, I just dont feel like spending the money to do it. Nor if I FI the car I would have problems selling it where I live.

I guess it depends on your tuning skill/knowledge and access to non retail charging shops with the pricing.

Wow. The 430 guys should just cross the border to where you are.

Forced induction is the most powerful choice but costly.

Have you considered optimizing your current configuration? SRT intake, Precision industries TC, S&S Headers, Supra 3.77 limited slip...

The above combination will take over a second off the 1/4 mile time and be very responsive and fun to drive.

Default supercharger

JBrady -

I have not thought of these ideas, but will run them by Jason at JP Importz in Garland, TX (JPI).

He's the one who has me excited about some of the possible mods!!

how's it working out? how much did you pay?

I'm hearing a lot of disappointment from supercharger kits:

sounds like people are spending a lot of money and not getting the promised performance gains, yet turbo guys are getting huge gains for not much more money.

what is your experience?

Turbo for not much money They do not belong in the same sentence! Show me someone running a turbo in a 98+ GS for not much money?? For not much money I assume you are talking $10,000+??

I am in about $7500 on my supercharged GS and I am close to 400 at the wheels.

I dont think it is a matter of being dissapointed, the SC's work well and they work as advertised. Its just that lots of folks, myself included quickly want more from them than they were designed to do. Thats where the dissapointment comes in.

And trust me there is nothing cheap about a turbo setup for a GS400
