Default Porting my N/A 2JZGE head(BIG TIME INTAKE PORT)

NA port and polish.

It has been said that the NA head sucks, and doesn't flow well...that is until now. I have opend up the ports as big as the TT ports...and I am pretty darn sure that this will flow more than a stock TT head. Might even flow as much as a mild port and polished TT head.

I was amazed on how much material I could remove. As soon below is a pile of some of the shavings. The shaves pile actually stands about 3 inches high and aboutg 5 inches in diamter. This is only from the intake side and I still have 3 more ports to finish. I have about 8 1/2 hours into porting just 9 out of 12 ports, that is about an hour a port. Not much can be done...or needs to be done to the exhaust so that should only take me 3-4 hours for the exhaust side.

You can also see that I need to port the intake manifold as well, but it gives you an idea on how much material was removed.

Props on doing the work yourself but port size is no where near as important as port velocity on a N/A application. You just killed your port velocity and subsequent cylinder fill.
I really hope for your sake that you didnt kill all your low end torque.
On a turbo car its ok to go hog wild on the ports cause you have pressure filling the cylinder.

Here are my results. I lost a little on the .100" lift...but that was almost expected...as long as the rest of the numbers are higher. Now I can't wait to run this on the dyno.

Stock head
lift intake exhaust
.100 91.79 69.854
.200 161.332 130.38
.300 197.372 154.23
.350 205.64 156.35
.400 208.82 157.62

Ported head
lift intake exhaust
.100 86.92 70.29
.200 167.27 128.37
.300 213.17 163.16
.350 225.25 172.68
.400 231.51 179.46

Actually I've heard the N/A head flows better than the TT. As for the porting it looks like you gain about 20cfm per port or so? Do you have your own flow bench or something?

No, I took it to a guy who has one. All the machine shops recommended him...really nice guy and very smart. Doesn't mind sharing all sorts of info.

Looking good man, losing a little bit down low is ok as long as you gain alot on the top...unless your making a dragster. Also, I know your busy, but did you have a chance to check your PM?

yeah, I did loose a little down low...I didn't have to though. I have about ten times the amount of knowledge about head porting now than I did 2 weeks ago.

I have another head that I am going to port, and I know I can increase my low and mid range numbers quite a bit better.

I was porting the head to flow high numbers at high lift and big valves...well, I am not going to be running high lift or bigger valves, so I lost my low lift numbers for nothing. I am not going to pick up any power in the low RPM range...but I am excited to see what I get on the top end.
