Throttle Body Question
Hey everyone. Just bought my 99 GS4 back in May. I'm super excited to clean my throttle body to get rid of the rough idle problem. I removed the engine cover and unscrewed the hose clamps by the air filter and the throttle body, but it still will not come out. I think it has to do with a black box it is attaced to. I pointed to where it is on the engine below...
Any help on getting the intake unit off would be greatly appreciated.

When I changed my spark plugs I ended up removing the intake unit. It took a little twisting after loosening up the clamp on it. If you are sure you have disconnected everything then try lifting the hose part a little to get it going. Hope this helps.

Alright man this is what you do. Just squeeze the spring clip on the vacuum 3 vacuum hoses I'm pointing to. Slide them off of the black box your talking about. You also need to remove the 2 bolts that mount the black box in the engine compartment so you can remove it (10 mm socket). Then you can pull the air intake tube off along with the black box and you'll need to unplug your mass air flow sensor thats mounted on the air intake tube so you can put it on the ground. Be careful when you remove the intake tube because the mass airflow sensor is mounted to the air intake tube and it's expensive. Also remove your negative battery cable. I used intake/throttle body cleaner sprayed on a rag to clean the inside of the throttle body and the butterfly plate. I also used a toothbrush to scrub a little. When your done hook everything back up, start your car and let it run for a couple minutes. It will rev high at first and then level off. Good luck

What a coincidence. I just cleaned by TB. It solved the problem I was having with stalling and lack of pedal response. I had to unclip the power steering fluid to get to the bolt that secured the black box you were talking about. Once I got that one bolt loose the other pieces slid off easily.

Indeed a coincidence! I just did mine today!!
There are two 10mm bolts holding down that small back plastic box that's kind of molded into the air intake.
a 3" ext and a deep-well socket will cover ya.
My intake was not pulling straight off very easily, but when I lifted the black box and intake and rotated them upwards, this allowed the leverage to get the whole assembly off of the throttlebody.
PS. as I had read in other threads, your car may be hard to start afterwards, even if you let it all dry out for an hour. I had to give it a little gas to start, and it was rough for about the first 15 seconds before smoothing out.
Don't forget to spray down the MAF sensor too, over by the air cleaner box!!
