Did you rely on Lexus's computer reading, or did you measure it "manually"?

I think he did on-board computer readings not "manually"

My wife's RX showed 12 MPG on the computer. I went to the dealership, made them check everything, but they assured me nothing was wrong with the car and I might wanna change the gas station next time. Instead, I was still going to the same gas station I alwas go to, and measured it myself. Actual measurement showed 20 MPG, which is more realistic. So, I don't trust those computer/navigation readings any more.

Yeah... I don't trust it either. Sometimes it shows on my screen that I'm getting only 16mpg yet at half tank I traveled 190 miles already. I have a 98' GS400. And can new timing belt, tb tensioner, tb idler improve fuel economy? I passed up on new spark plugs because they were changed recently. I had the car undergo the 90k service about 2 weeks ago and now at 70MPH on CC, my screen reads about 26MPG, but prior to the service, it was around 21MPG. I always use the same gas and take the same freeways also so all the other variables are constant.

the Nav readings are just plain wrong in a lot of cases. When I bought my GS I noticed this. A few weeks into owning the car, I was driving on the freeway and watched the cruising range go from 194 miles to 141 in one blip. I had been on the freeway getting 24 mpg for about an hour and a half. when I got off the freeway, it changed 53 miles in one second....

hmmmm... delareship all is working as expected and said it is normal for our GS to do things like that as it is just trying to forecast not actually reading.

If your car is tuned then that makes perfect sense. Tuning does wonders for fuel economy, I had my Integra tuned with Hondata after I built the motor and my gas milage shot through the roof. I used to be able to get about 250 miles per tank before the tune, after it I was getting 320-340 constantly and I was beating on the car a lot more. My buddy has a turbo civic tuned with Hondata as well and he gets way better gas milage than he ever did before with his 1.5 liter Civic when it was stock.

The main reason why the navigation's mpg meter is wrong is because of all the time the car is idling. While the car is idling, it'll show "0 mpg". Then however long you spent idling, it'll average it out with all the other time the car is actually moving.

If you want to test your highway mpg with the navigation system. Get rolling, then reset the mpg counter.
