magnaflow w/ cut 2ndary cats. i paid $120. all they do is cut it and replace it w/ 2 pipes

yeah it's the same.

I think whoever wants to try it should definately go for it, its' cheap to do and you get some gains. Also my friend said he never heard a sound like mine before (in a good way). he said it g35ish but more sporty sounding.

I had a Magnaflow muffler on an IS300 I had before and really liked it. I have a 250 now and I'm considering doing something with the exhaust to open it up, but I don't want it loud.

Here is a thread with all the info- thanks

If you chose to drive a Lexus a part of you enjoys the attention you get by driving one, especially the hot new IS. A nice exhaust drone gets you that attention above and beyond visual appeal. I considered a G35 simply because everytime I saw one accelerate away from a light that exhaust note was beautiful. I am considering the Tanabe exhaust, but am interested in what Borla is coming out with. I heard a clip on youtube (I think it was there) and the Borla sound was really, really nice.

After having both V8's and V6's, IMO almost any V8 sounds pretty good with a little more tone. Most V6's don't don't really sound very good with a loud exhaust. For me there are exceptions like the G35 and Porsches. The G35's exhaust note is unique probably do to the firing order, much like the difference in sound between a Mustang GT and a Camaro.

I'm a little reluctant to ask, but what would firing order have to do with exhaust sound? It seems to me like the firing order would only have an impact on sound if the exhaust manifold / header had unequal length pipes. Why else would it matter if a particular combustion pulse came from the front, back, left, right, or middle of the block?

That is correct, with a single exhaust, firing order will not effect sound to a large degree- unless you put the wrong firing order on your car- LOL

Well, the 2IS effectively has a single exhaust. It just has a VERY long 6-2-1 manifold that later splits back out to 2 mufflers.

I'd prefer a less restricitive mid section than worrying about the mufflers. As air cools it takes up less space, so reducing restriction closer to the motor is more important then at the end of the exhaust. It's the Ideal Gas law at work.

I did this and it sounds like crap! Not that much louder then stock but at around 3000 to 4000 it gets real raspy! When just removing the cats it sounded just like stock or maybe a little louder. Then I removed the resonator and it gave it a raspy sound. My exhaust guy said before I removed the resonator that it might sound raspy but we could try it and if I didn't like it we could put it back on. It's going back on next week but ill leave the cats off.

Thanks for letting us know! We've been talking about custom exhaust design here, and I think we've concluded that the stock resonator needs to stay.
