screw the popo....live fast, live reckless, live free!! Screw the environment, screw the ECU light, screw them all.

I'm going commando on my exhaust!.....

ok. now that I have that out of my system my question is whether anyone has ever had a muffler shop install a replacement hi-flow cat when the OEM cat is still in good working order. I saw some hiflow cats on the magna flow website that are CA CARB legal and wonder if installation would improve whp?

If a high flow cat would give gains on a nearly stock car, I'm sure Lexus would have used them. Even a straight pipe gives small gains, so I seriously doubt there would be much to gain from higher flow cats unless you were FI.

generally, i would agree with your statement about Lexus using the most efficient parts. However, after looking at the hunk of junk that is the exhaust manifold installed on the IS350, I wonder if infact Lexus even considered the issue. Also, the exhaust, from what I have read, is a piece of junk as well. I think that Lexus probably could have added at least 20whp if some effort was put into making a more efficient exhaust system that included headers and a lighter exhaust system.

Probably not. I believe even the stock secondary cats are already comparable to after market high flow cats.

The exhaust manifolds are definitely junk, but the exhaust seems to be pretty damn good. Aside from it being heavy (like all OEM systems), it makes very good power while being very quiet. The aftermarket manifold back exhausts are only making about 10 hp while being loud and illegal.

you couldnt just put it in place.. you would have to turn you exhaust into a true dual system.. way to much money for the small gain
