I currently own 5speed IS300 and i am planning on getting an intake. But i was wondering what the power difference is between getting an intake and getting just the good quality AIR FILTER. i am not good at these things.. so fill me in! thanx!

well, an air filter , such as the BLITZ drop in filter will help your car will breathe easier.. it wont add great power, but proly a noticeable amount, ( 1-2RWHP).
an intake, such as the AEM will add a little more, and give more sound as well.. ( 3-5RWHP). there is no redesign on the AEM, the problems that most people encounter from AEM, INJEN and others like it are install problems. do it right and you'll be fine
lastly, there are the big intakes. there are two: AREA 51 intake and Black box, and SRT intake and ECU.
basically, these intakes include their own ECU's that allow the intake to function on a higher level than just the intake alone..these intakes put out around 10-13rwhp
also, you can combine the AEM or INJEN with an APexi AFC-r. ( air flow controler) costing about 300 dollars (or 500 for type r), this is the same as the srt/area51 ecu.. EXCEPT you can adjust it with additional mods, such as headers and exhausts for MORE power..
IMO , the AEM and APExi afc-r is the best combo..
however, it will require dyno/test time..
but , if u just want intake , go SRT or AREA 51 and BB

AREA 51 intake is the quietest, closed element ..kinda like stock (in a closed box)
but the REAL power of AREA 51 and SRT comes from piggy back ECU..
(kinda like the APEXI Air flow controler)
for AREA 51, its called the black box...
so, basically, to get any real power u need the black box..
the intake by itself wont do too much.. 3-5RWHP max!!!
the black box will add another 4-6RWHP on top of that..

I am also in the market for an intake. Thanks for all the info you guys provided. I am leaning on getting the SRT intake. Most likely get it in a few days. So what are the feedbacks from people with SRT intake???

auto / manual parts are same cuz engine is the same..
power gains may be more ( just a fraction ) than auto..but i dont know about that.. it wouldnt be like noticeable i think..
