Default Why should I buy an aftermarket exhaust?

I've been eyeing the CarsonTuned and APEXi WS2 exhausts but haven't read anything about performance gains. Is there any? If not, why should I spend extra $$$ on a cat-back system?

In a way, keeping the stock exhaust helps avoid tickets as five-O can't hear you coming 1/4 mile in advance. Louder exhaust also gives the impression that you're going faster than you really are.

My stock exhaust appears fine to me (70k), how long before they generally need to be replaced?

Unsure on what to do here...

Mufflers hardly go out unless rust is a problem in your area.

I bought my exhaust mostly because of its sound. My car stock is so boring that I almost fell asleep while driving.

If you want gains, get yourself an exhaust system and make your own 2.5" catback piping. A member here gained 16whp/42ftlb with a help of a dyno tuning and exhaust setup (everything else stock).

Well this sounds like your definitley unsure about added a aftermarket exhaust.. I would take a ride in another GS with exhaust to see if you like it.. There many reasons why we do exhaust.. Performace, sound, and looks. If you really want to get crazy check out Hameeds thread on his custom exhaust.. If your not sure just buy a rear section.. You can always sell it in the classifieds if your not happy.. GL

Default Catback

1.) Looks
2.) Sound
3.) Performance thru more air flow and weight reduction....

if there are restrictions upstream of the exhaust, ie cats and resonators, it's not going to do much performance wise for you.

I installed my Borla's and took them off, they were not worth the $550 for a little noise and barley any HP. Im sending it back tomm. I am just going to add the Gs430 exhaust tips since they are bigger and shinnier than my 98 gs4's tips and they are only $79 bucks. The SRT intake is all the horsepower i need.
