Nice setup. Any details you could give on tuning with a Map ECU would be great. I find that to be the most confusing part of the turbo install.

Map ECU is easy to tune, I rigged up a 1K ohm resistor to my temp sensor so the temp gauge stays down and the car stays in open loop "cold start mode" It makes tuning easier, I lose my temp gauge but it works. If you go to www.mapecu.co.nz they have a forum that is just starting out but I was able to ask the mapecu designer questions there. You should probably read my posts over there he helped me set it up. Tuning is easy, just get into the 3D map, input the value of chance (1-99%) and hit the up or down page key to take away or add fuel, you need a wideband, I reccomend the Innovate XD-1.

Thanks. Also, why did you choose the Map ECU1 over MAP ECU2?

Glad to see your car is running good now. I also have the map-ecu and am gonna try the resistor mod. I have been following your threads on a couple of sites. I raised my idle to 800 and the car is running great now. No stalls after boosting. I was gonna take out my 85lb injectors and put smaller ones in but you gave me hope. Thanks for the info. Your car stays in open-loop all the time now?? That would be great news for my tuning issues. The stock ecu is always readjusting.

Yea that resistor mod helped out quite a bit, I havene't tested it but it should stay in open loop. I know with our VVTI GE ECU's we are stuck with using injectors under 525cc's but I was going to put methanol in to add more fuel. Also look into the split second ( P/N# esc1 I think), It fools the ecu into open loop when it see's boost so the ecu won't readjust. The guy that did the resistor mod had to do this as well.

Adam,

Can your car still be used as a daily driver?

Of course, it drives just like a stock one until you boost it. I drove my family to a resteraunt on the coast yesterday, 80 miles.. had the cruise on and the seat reclined, nice and comfy.

Probably take it to speedworld in the next few weeks after my next round of mods.

I already listed my mods, very basic.. turbo, fuel, intercooler, MAP ECU, Wideband, and custom pipes, I made my own fuel line, bought al the oil feed / return fittings and lines. It took awhile to piece it all together, lots of work, did the headgasket too.

Thank you for sharing this information. Are you seeing any negative side effects of being in open loop 100% of the time? Do you see any CELs or have any running issues?

I am putting together a NA-T VVTi build for a SC300 and the ECU is the last piece of the puzzle! Any more help would be greatly appreciated!
