I realized there's a slight hitch in my plans to install the exhaust myself... I don't really have a good way to raise the car.

Do you think I would be able to get enough clearance to get under the car by putting the right or left two wheels on a 5" curb (while the other wheels are on the road)? Kind of a ghetto approach, haha... maybe I should invest in a couple of those little ramps like in caymandive's thread...

Default Niether

They are both very tame and very legal, which to me equals quiet and slow.

If you want to come up to McKinney, you can install it in my garage.

I didn't mean to imply that I had a lift. It is just a regular residencial garage, but I have a good "racing" jack, jack stands, ramps, and all the necesary tools to swap the exhuast out.

Oh, ok. Only problem is that I'm not sure how easy it would be to take the exhaust in my IS, or to bring the stock exhaust back with me.

Thanks for the offer, though. I think I'm gonna install the exhaust at my parents' place when I visit in a week or so, and then leave my stock exhaust in their garage for now. Free storage.

I guess I'll just buy some ramps from WalMart or something.

Just went from the Tanabe to the HKS and I must say that I like the HKS more. The HKS is louder but not in a bad way. Sometimes it was hard for me to even notice that the Tanabe was there. I have only put about a hundred miles on the HKS but it feels like it has more power then the Tanabe. FYI, I have my rear cats removed.

Did you have your rear cats removed when you had the Tanabe also?

Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems that my HKS Hi Power exhaust is getting a little bit deeper as it "burns" in. Not quieter, a deeper tone.
Granted that my exhaust is pretty stiffly sprung, but there is also more of a low frequency hum that you feel in the car, specifically in the center armrest with your arm, than there was before. It's not rattly, or buzzy, or bothersome at all, just there.

What's the difference/disadvantage with aluminized steel? Rusts easier? The stock pipes aren't even stainless, are they? If the problem is just rust, I wouldn't think that's much of an issue in TX.

Well corrosion but you get more corrosion internally due to the corrosive nature of exhaust gas. Alluminization is a coating but not as tough as ceramic coating that helps the steel resist corrosion and regular rusting externally. Stainless steel is more resistant but will eventually corrode also. I think I just set a forum record for using corrosion...oops there's another one!

Some pics of my HKS exhaust. I used hose clamps to bring the exhaust closer to the bumber.
