hey~~

virginia cops are freaking paranoid about aftermarket exhaust.
do you think they are gonna let that exhaust go??
(i had bunch of tickets because of exhaust on my previous car)

also.. do we need to take out the cat-converter in order to install
tanabe kit??

I can think of plenty other stock exhausts that are as loud or louder than the Tanabe - think BMW's and G35's... If those cars don't get hassled, you'll be fine... (unless, of course, you give the cops other, more important reasons to hassle you )

No, the Tanabe is an "axle-back" exhaust, so the only thing you replace is from the rear axle back, as in this picture, which shows the entire exhaust system:

After driving with the exhaust on the car for about 150 miles now, I must say it is really starting to sound nice! The exhaust sounded good to me at first, but now that it's finally starting to break-in, the exhaust tone is only getting better. Next Friday I will have my car back in the shop and doing some custom work to my cats. Going to use V-Bands and test pipes so that I can swap the cats/pipes on and off as I please in just minutes! This will enable me to run street legal and make it very easy to swap in and out for those fun days. Estimated cost to do this project is about $250-$300. The most expensive part is the $45 each for the 4 V-Bands. Once I get this done, I'll dyno and head back to the track to see what kind of numbers I can achieve and see how the car sounds with test pipes.

Thanks for the info on the weight, James. I guess Tanabe was a little 'optimistic' with their info.

Haha, looks like the future Mrs. Caymandive took full advantage of her chance to do a drive-by...

LOL yeah I had no idea she was going to take advantage like that. I guess that was her payback for the way I run her 1.8T Jetta.

Kudos to the future Mrs. Caymandrive on the awesome driveby!

Sounds great, "meatier" than the stock exhaust, especially when your pushing it (as well demonstrated in the video).

Looks nice. Where are you finding the V-bands that cheap?

very nice, from the video it sounds almost like the exhaust tone from a VQ35. Seeing all the exhaust threads making me want to get mine arrrhh the mod bug is biting, thanks a lot guys lol.

I have no idea where they are getting them, but when I asked how much they would cost I wasn't going to argue.

Can you still remove 2 out of the 4 cats after installing a tanabe exhaust? I want a deeper sound and I think Tanabe's systems looks great but might be a little quiet (but removing 2 cats should make it louder).
