Default Opinions? Wepon R short ram CAI?

Has anyone used the Wepon R short Ram Cold Air intake?

Quality?

Gains?

Sound?

Happy with your purchase?

The pipe design reminds me of the "Tornado"

Thanks for your input

No matter what intake you get, you're gonna need some sort of air/fuel controller to alter the sensor signal.

Do a search....if I recall, there may be some issue with CEL coming on after Weapon R install....thus, you may need what Jeff suggested.

Basically any intake that has a different piping diameter from the stock intake is going to cause you to throw a code and the car will run terrible. Stock intake pipe is 2.25" or 2.5" diameter. Stock sensor is calibrated for smaller pipe. Now you put it in a bigger pipe and the sensor thinks there is less air going thru (bigger pipe= less air velocity for the same amount of air volume) when in fact the same amount of air is being moved. You need a SAFC or some similar basic fuel controller to alter the signal the sensor is putting out. Basically telling the engine computer the real "corrected" values. I put that in as basic and easy as possible terms to understand. Hope it helps!

Also, there is one intake on the market that has a fuel ecu pre-tuned and ready to go for the car. It's the SRT intake, a bit pricey but it's the only one that has a signal modifier.

So to sum it up. There are only 4 kinds of intake that will work on the car:
1) Stock intake obviously
2) Aftermarket intake with same diameter piping as stock
3) Aftermarket intake with larger diameter piping and you modify/tune the sensor signal
4) Aftermarket intake with larger piping and pre-tuned box (only one is SRT)

The SRT is nice but like you said but cost a pretty penny. I have heard mixed things about its performance and also it doesnt come with carb eo #s (california, i have to have especially if I am paying 500)

The Secret Wepon R short ram is supposed to have a higher velocity due to its inner piping design as it meets the TB. Honda's didnt have air flow sensors as the Lex does so this is all new to me, i am sure it will still mess with the brain.

Jeff, If I reset the ECU do you think it can re-learn the new activities and respond well?

Thanks again for your help and any one with similar situations please feel free to chime in.

Thanks J

You can reset the ECU, but it's still no comphensation for an air/fuel controller. You're going to get a code one way or another because the MAF already has a set air flow rate from the factory. At idle, the engine should be getting ~4-6gm/sec flow rate. Not too much to worry about if you have an aftermarket intake. The problem will arise when you actually drive the car. Once the engine gets up to speed, the flow rate will be vastly different than stock.

Apexi SAFC II

You can find it on ebay for $200 or less. Hope on Honda-tech.com. They usually sell it for around $160 or so.

had K&N=no light and ran like champ
have Akimoto=no light and runs like champ
i can tell you with these two intakes you will not have any problems and people i know with the weapon R have not had any problems ether. an a/f controller will maximize performance, but it's not required to have with an after market intake that is desing for your car.
