Question: ECT PWR Mode and ECU "Driving Style Learning"
#16
I've been using PWR mode for like the last 2 weeks and I barely notice a difference in gas consumption. Than again, I have the awd which is already not the greatest for consumption. Also, 97% of the driving is city and not highway.

Wow... usally i'm the one thats OT in threads, yet i'm the only one that was OnTopic? so far...
Now as for snow mode, i dont like it, in a 350 its really a drastic change (if you forget for a sec) epscially if you need to dart out while making a left turn onto some 4lane street, could be dangerous. I finally hit 80xmi and have yet to reset my ECU but i may not, even with my conservative driving when i WOT its fast enough. Here on oahu you cant hold WOT in a 350 for too long newayz.

There would be no reason to make the whole range move, i.e. you certainly don't want it to speed up the Snow mode.

In that case, I'm sure it does...why wouldn't it?
But I don't see why some make a big deal out of this...
However you "educate" your ECU, it won't make a significant difference.
And it's always open to resets.

So I guess you're asking whether the ECU learns in PWR mode...period.
In that case, I'm sure it does...why wouldn't it?

No, I'm not asking if it learns in PWR mode. I'm asking if it learns in Sport mode, when you're using the shifters. I often use Sport mode when acclerating from a stop, and I hold the gears longer than the transmission will normally (even in PWR mode). I feel like my 250 has decent acceleration, and I was wondering if that's why.
I hope your not as confused reading this as i was writing it...

Ok, i see what your getting at. The ECU modes were talking about has to deal with throttle response/shift point/timing(?), S mode is more of a transmission deal, so yes, while in nomral power/S mode your ECU is still learning but in pwr/S mode its not since pwr/snow are ROM settings and dont learn.

I would use PWR and Snow modes much more if the switch behavior was opposite from what it is. I would like for PWR mode to be a temporary mode (like snow is), and Snow mode to be a permanent mode (like PWR is). Since they aren't "right", I rarely ever use either of them.

So you are saying that the snow mode kicks back to normal after a period of time?
