Default custom exhaust

I dont know much about exhaust but i have a very good local shop who does custom exhaust for a very good price. I have been lookin at the tanabe exhaust which is between 600-700 and i can get a custom exhaust for cheaper then that. What do you guys prefer one that is from a manufacture or a custom one?

I have a mix of the two. I had a Carson Tuned catback. Then I did the S&S headers. Shortly after that I did a custom X pipe. The car is more responsive now, specially from mid to high range. And the sound is just heaven.
I don't have any sound clips but I do have pics.

I also did an SRT built racing tranny. I can now chirp the tires. I had someone tell me that they have never seen/heard a Lex chirp its tires, at the last meet I went to. LOL

How loud is your setup? I have borla mufflers right now and they're a bit quiet now that I got use to it. Not to mention, they are OEM quiet at 3K+ rpm.

How much was your exhaust setup and what size piping did you do?

I had a Borla rear section with a custom X-pipe and I ditched it all and went with the Tanabe exhaust system and I am much more happy with the stock setup with the Tanabe.

I have the same setup I just didn't install my headers and I don't have the custom X-pipe. Can you point out the custom X-pipe or post a closeup, because my car looks identical on the underside.

Supprisingly, with the headers and Magnaflow X pipe, my set up is not too loud at all. I got pulled over for no front plate and was eventually asked about all the mods on the car. The cop had me rev the car up to 5k rpm and back down to idle. I was supprised when the cop said that it was not past the legal limit of 96db here in Cali. There is just a noticable exotic rumble to it now. Not loud at all. The cop even wrote on the ticket. "Modified exhaust Not Loud"

The X pipe cost me a total of $480 parts and labor. Piping size is 2 1/4" The guy even painted the whole thing black for me.

Lexizm, the Magnaflow X pipe is the section in the middle where the two sides "cross". There is usually a resonator, on the GS400s and mid cat for the GS430s, where the X pipe is located.

very nice! I think my borlas are even quieter than the Carson! This is great news for me. I've been meaning to do this mod, but I didn't want anything too loud.

The problem is that I'm not too fond of exhaust tips like the ones on Tanabe, HKS, etc. I prefer the Borla looks since it matches the OEM bumper cutout perfectly.

I'm guessing since you have a 400, the carson set up did not use the B-pipe.

Does anyone know if the b-pipe or the tubing after the exhaust manifold has cats on it? From what I can tell, it looks like they are resonators. Any experiences?

There are such good exhaust systems out that I really dont see the point of going custom. With a custom I doubt that the piping will be mandrel bent, probably wont be stainless steel, and it may not fit as well as manufactured piece. I say just pickup an aftermarket system like Tanabe or HKS etc...

Let me get this straight for a complete exhaust swap. The way to go for the GS300 is JPI header, Carson B-pipe and a catback exhaust? Also, does the b-pipe need to be "extended?"

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the JPI headers are for the GS400/430 not the GS300.

I think JPI makes one for the GS300. Or at least JPI was selling a few in the classified section awhile ago.
