How Often Do You Reset Your ECU?

Slight improvement
Well Dex, I was probably expecting too much – I felt some improvement in downshifts and shifts in general but not as much as I’d hoped for. Could have to do with my driving habits and what the ECT had already learned. I do drive the car hard – since I only drive about 35 miles a day (almost all in traffic) I’m seldom in 5th – spend a lot of time in 3rd and downshift to 2nd just about any time I stop. May not get out of 3rd by the time I hit the next light. In other words, my rpms stay up. This might account for my experience when compared to some others – my parameters may already be at the limit.
Based on your experience and Jacobs, it may be more beneficial if you’ve got the TC. Don’t get me wrong – there was an improvement, but it was more subtle than I’d hoped for. I really wanted some kickass. Guess I gotta get the TC.

Hmm - OK garnet - the TC coupled with your typical driving style (high RPMs) is what probaly is masking the differences in the improvements; my driving style is totally different....
Well, you've got your plan laid out then get on the phone to SRT!

I sure hope it doesn't lose the marked map locations, that would be a REAL bummer.
As far as the clock, I think the nav has it's own clock too (date shows up in the trip listings), but I suspect it gets that from the GPS.

Re: Slight improvement
Ditto. I did mine last night and had a chance to mash it a couple times this morning. I did notice a difference but not monstrous. I, too, could use a TC. But, I will probably do this at least once a month. Any positive gain is worth the time 9 times out of 10.

From all these posts, I really wonder why Lexus design this learning ECU in the first place? It is kind of dumb that most Lexus customers have to reset their ECU due to a bad design. I don't like the drive-by-wire design either. Remember those old days, no OBDII, drive by cable to control your own throttle to get the raw power out of your engine
Maybe they just try to consume more silicon for the semi-conductor industry

I would pick out 'dumb' and 'most'.
I'd bet its due to the demographic they were going after, mainly, those who don't drive the cars very agressively. Therefor, they don't get their necks snapped back every time they drive.
Only logic that I can think of.
Eh, an easy resolution though - I still wish there was a chip or something we could drop in there to kill or negate the AI.

Better!
Maybe I was a little hasty … over the last 2 days, I have noticed a definite improvement. Still not earth-shaking, but better overall than I perceived the day following the reset. So, I’m sold – I’ll plan on doing it (probably) weekly from now on. Thanks Dexter for the “heads up” on this one. Anyone else have any little known “tricks” that can perk up the beast???

OK guys, this afternoon I yanked out the 20A fuse (the inside of the fuse box cover said it's for the ECU) and left it out for a couple of minutes. Put it back in, started up the car, and was pleasantly surprised to see that I didn't lose my radio stations. The climate control was off though (I don't remember turning it off) and when I hit 'auto' it was set to 75 which I don't recall leaving it at.
Anyway, onto the drive... it was definitely 'different' in a good way I think. The shifts seemed smoother (good) and it seemed more keen to downshift (GREAT!). I drove it 'briskly' for 15 minutes to a place I was going to and later 15 mins back. So far, so good! Since it seems like I don't need to disconnect the battery (more of a pain), I will use this 'viagra' treatment once in a while!

I reset the ECU 20A fuse (0ne hour) last Saturday-the 1st time.
It is still a great feeling to know that its an original status once again.
Result: lost clock, steering wheel, radio, seat position setting.
It is not a big deal anyway. I can live with it for once a month.

Two questions:
1) Does anyone know exactly what this does to the ECU? ("re-setting" doesn't say much.)
2) Has anyone run before & after, under same conditions, WOT acceleration runs? At least three before & three after ... time to distance, not time to speed.
I have no doubt that the car feels much better after the re-set. I question whether the max HP is actually increased. I suspect that the slope of the accelerator pedal:throttle-opening curve is altered, but that WOT is unchanged.
In God we trust; all others bring data.
