Smog Test on IS350 for CA after mods?
#18
well, thats not entirely true . as long as your exhaust doesnt touch any of the catalytic converters, you should be fine. for example, all axle backs will pass smog since none of the cats are removed or tampered with. intakes, on the other hand, MUST be CARB certified to pass. the only CARB certified intake i know of is the F-sport

right, but the visual inspection is just to make sure all the cats are present. being an axle back, the Tanabe shouldnt tamper with the cats at all (unless u have a custom setup)

Your exhaust can't have a whistle-tip (no issue for tanabe)
Your exhaust can not cause the sound of the vehicle to exceed 95 dba of sound. (the tanabe -should- be good here, as the mfg says it stays under 93 dba, but it's worth being aware of- especially for folks reading this thread looking at louder exhausts than the tanabe)

(not that I live in CA, but still true)
An axle-back won't have any impact on what comes out of your tailpipe anyway as far as emissions go... almost nothing available for the 2IS would other than something that deletes cats, and that's -already- illegal under federal law in all 50 states.

There's a bit more to it than that in CA-

Don't sweat it if you have an axleback aftermarket exhaust. I had a loud ricey exhaust on my Honda, and it always passed smog/emissions checks with flying colors.
