Default Modify 400 FIPK to fit 430?

Just curious, has anyone modified a K&N FIPK intake for the 400 to fit the 430?

If not, do you see any problems with trying to do so?

What are the main differences in the engines that might hinder this? If it's just an extra .3 liters, I'm thinking it shouldn't be that hard.

In case you can't tell, I really want the K&N

The main problem you will run in to is the mass airflow sensor. It's much bigger on the 400 compared with the 430. I pretty sure that's the reason some companies only make an intake for the 400. I've heard of problems with the smaller sensor and the check engine light coming on! If you find a way cudos to you! I have one and love it!

K&N wont work on the GS430 due to the MAF.

Get the injen intake and call it a day. Works great too.

You can try a custom plate to fit the 430 maf. Everything is identical except for the maf, so I think it might work.

I picked up a CAI on fleebay for 49bux with a genuine K&N filter. Crazy deal. We both love it. The fuel milage suffered severly though, cause neither of us can keep our foot out of it. It sounds Soooooooooooo good.

EDIT: BTW yes this is for a 430

yup! The ebay intake with the K&N cone is a great combo for the money. Even better if you have it tuned with an SAFC!

Whats the deal with the FIPK, what makes it more desirable to you guys than another brand ?

Plastic tube to conduct less heat.

Smaller diameter piping for less low end loss

CARB legal for the cali guys (my biggest priority)

Cheaper than the SRT and can probably gain as much power with an SAFC

I totally understand the crappy carb deal for your poor gents in komunist kalifornia, though the rest of us will catch up eventually.

The plastic intake pipe will actually have more heat soak than alum though.

Smaller pipe dia than the SRT ? heres info for the fipk on the GS4
http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=57-9011 It apears to have the same dia of pipe and tube length.

the K&N intake has a diameter of about 3" or so. The SRT is about 3.5". This was a rough measurement when I had both intakes. I had the SRT first, and then sold it for the K&N.

As for heat soak, a member here measured the intake temperature for both intake and the K&N had lower intake temperature (most likely due to the superior heat shield). At the rate of the air flowing into the engine (WOT), it negates most of the heat soak caused by the piping material. The K&N plastic has a lower heat conductivity than aluminum. The SRT would be hot after 20 minute of driving. The K&N stayed pretty cool to touch for the same duration.

I've used both intake before and the K&N is my favorite. I regret selling mine, and I'm back in the market for another one.

see here for where i compared the intake temps of the two intakes. as gsteg said, the SRT has a larger diameter.

EXACTLY!!!! I'm not in Cali so the CARB thing is not important to me. I had a SRT on my GS3 and I'm not a big fan. Personally, I think it's way over rated and believe you can gain MORE HP with a FIPK dialed in.

I guess I would have to ride or drive in a car with an fipk to understand the difference. My cheap ebay filter makes the car feel much faster. It feels like theres alot more pull in the upper rpm power band.

EDIT: and looking at the gs400 vs 430. What would the difference be ? The intake comes out in the same location. The body and engine compartment are the same...?
